Favorite Place to Buy Music CD's? / Cheapest Prices

Hey fellow music junkies,

I was just curious what everybody's favorite place is to buy music CD's is. Also what place / site you've found that had the cheapest prices.

Currently, I use www.alldirect.com. They have good prices. Their selection is pretty good too. However, they are limited in some sorts.

I have used ALLDIRECT for years - very good service along with those prices!

Try here for more great pricing, but I caution, not always great service: www.deepdiscountcd.com

I'll second that. I ordered 8 of the Rolling Stones remasters from there and it took almost two months to receive the whole order.

BMG and Deep Discount. I'm relatively patient.

I didn't buy a CD for 4 years. Then I started working 70 hours a week and my non-backed up 40 gig hard drive full of mp3's crashed (leaving me with 30 gigs). So now I don't have free time to download music. Therefore, I've bought a ton of cd's in the past few weeks. Also, I like some obscure music that is hard to find these days without napster (win mx, kazaa).

So that's why I buy them and starting this thread.

However, www.cheap-cds.com looks promising. Any comments on their level of service?

Online, i buy most of my stuff from djangos.com

At B&M's, I try to shop locally owned stores whenever possible.
My personal favorites:
The Electric Fetus, Minneapolis
Down in the Valley, Minneapolis
Cheapo/Applause Records, Minneapolis
Waterloo Records, Austin, TX.

The Electric Fetus is a great store. Lots of cool stuff besides music. The few CDs I've bought this year have been from the Fetus.

But I live 25 minutes from the store, so I've never tried ordering from their website. Good to great prices, excellent selection, huge Prog Rock section, nice sized industrial and electronic, lots of indie rock. I spend way too much money there.

I had about 15 CDs on my "to buy" list (none are available from BMG), and I checked out most of the sites listed in this thread. After whipping up a spreadsheet, I'm buying from the following two places:
  • AllDirect - For the most part they have the best prices (typically $1.50 or so less than Deep Discount), but their shipping is kinda hefty. As you can see on their front page, they're currently running a free shipping promotion for orders over $99, and with the 10 CDs I'm getting from here I'm just over that by a few bucks.
  • Cheap CDs - A little more expensive for most items, but they have a better selection (3 of the CDs I want were only available here) and their shipping charge maxes out at $4 for 4 items. I'm buying the rest from here. Nevermind, they rape you on the handling.

I ordered from deepdiscountcd for the first time. I ordered the new David Gray cd about a month ago, and still haven't recieved it. I wrote a letter to them asking about it a week ago and still haven't gotten a response. I'm quite pissed. Though, I never had a problem from their dvd site.

Did you just reply to the order confirmation? If so, that's not the right email address, you need to write to [email protected]
