I think they're all radio-friendly crap. But again... that's just my opinion.

Indeed. All those bands (except creed) play (or played) what the hell they felt like at the time, not what would get played on the radio or MTV. Hell Pearl Jam eschued video's after their first album.

Got to love it when people make their opinions meaningless.

I think the cover is pretty interesting..anyway, I really love the energy in "Set it Off"---"the last thing he said was / set that f**ker off!!* I've missed Cornell, glad to hear something to new. Hopefully, they'll be around for more than just this record..

Cornell is really sounding tough and his vocals have a deep quality I love. Musically I think there is less depth but a good tight sound none the less. I did tire of TM's "I can make wierd sounds" solos but his riffage is still awesome. BTW, anyone who puts Creed in the class of the Soundgarden, PJ or AIC is seriously in need of some help.

As a fan of Cornell and Rage, I was looking forward to this album off for awhile. It took some getting use to it, but I'm liking it more and more. Like it has been echoed in this thread, Audioslave isn't Rage. I think I was kind of expecting that when I first started and was a little disappointed, not even giving the album a chance.

As I am writing this post actually, a Rage song followed an Audioslave song. It puts how different these two are in perspective. I still prefer Rage, though. Zach's rapping always got the adrenaline rushing, but Cornell brings something completely new to the table.

Why is my opinion meaningless... because you disagree with it? I've heard all those bands for years. I'm 26 years old and was 16 when grunge hit the mainstream. Most of my friends listened to Soundgarden, PJ, Alice in Chains, etc. My fiancee loves Creed and I've heard most of their stuff as well.

In my opinion it's all in the same category. Some guy singing with low-toned vocals over hard rock/alternative rock guitars. In my opinion: boring.

Hey, you don't agree with me. That's fine. But no need to get ugly. I know about music and I like music. I just don't like the grunge or post grunge vocals. I find them irritating and boring.

So has anyone heard about the limited edition of Audioslave's album that was released only in Australia?

I'm wondering what sort of extra stuff the Aussies got.

The reason being, and quite objectively, that equating Creed with Pearl Jam or Soundgarden because of similar vocal styles is the same as equating Styx with Led Zeppelin because they both have guitars and drums.

Only problem with this is that Layne from AIC did not sing in a "low-toned" pitch, and for the most part neither did Cornell from Soundgarden. If anything they are high toned vocalists who could belt out notes Stapp could only dream about.

Actually, it was calling them "radio friendly" that made it appear that you know nothing about them.

Creed is the only radio friendly band you mentioned. The others eschued the radio and MTV popularity and just played whatever type of music they wanted to at the time

Your opinion of them sucking is fine. Whether a band is radio friendly or not is a fact.

Anyway, for those that actually like Audioslave, they're going to be on Letterman tonight. Their site says its "a performance you won't want to miss."

They played Cochise and that's it. No chatting with Letterman.

Cool, that's one of my least favorite songs (figured they'd play it since that's the single). I'd still liked to have seen it though.

I didnt think Cornell sounded all that great. He definetly did not nail that scream he does in Cochise. I think his voice was off on this performance.

Just watched the Letterman performance on Replaytv. Was pretty decent. I did enjoy the fact they were playing on top of the marquee of the theater.

Any more thoughts on this album? I loved RATM more for its "bounce" that was noted on its early albums and Tom Morello's guitar work... I'm not going to miss the political aspect of the band. I thought Cochise was pretty good... the video was fun, too. Lotsa pyro. I'm thinking about getting the album during Best Buy's preferred customer sale this weekend.

And on a side note, has anyone heard the version of "Wu Tang Ain't Nothin' To **** With" with Wu Tang and Tom Morello? It's beautiful.

I think a few of the songs have the "bounce." But don't got expecting the whole album to sound like that. Around half the songs are fairly mellow, though still awesome.

I like it more each time I listen to it. Definitely the best album I've bought in years. It's sounds like something that would have came out in the early-mid 90's when music was actually good IMO.

I was always a fan of both Soundgarden and Rage, but not rabidly so. This Audioslave record has HUGELY exceeded my expectations and is the best rock album I've heard this year, eclipsing the new Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters albums, which I like but were still somewhat disappointing.

The mark of truly great songs to me are ones I wake up with in my head, and "Shadow of the Sun" has been doing that for me the past few days, alternating with "Set It Off", and of course, the awesome "Show Me How to Live". Cornell sounds great, the production is huge and perfect and I just love the damn thing. "Hypnotize" is very catchy too and is unlike anything these guys have done before. I can see at least 4 or 5 songs from this record being really big on Modern Rock radio.

The album does lose a little momentum towards the end, but that's a minor quibble. I agree they pretty much sucked on Letterman, Cornell looked and sounded disinterested. I really hope they stay together as they have a sound unlike anyone else out there right now.

Okay. First off, I hardly ever buy cds. And I realize that this cd is like 2 years old.

But I was watching VH1 Mega Hits the other week and saw a video for Audioslave's Show Me How To Live and then the next day rushed to Wal-Mart and got the cd for like 9 bucks.

I have had the cd for about two weeks and it has not came out of my changer and has not quit being played yet.

When I bought the cd I did not realize how old it was! (came out in 2002 - I was just starting college - now I'm a junior).

Anyway, the cd is fuckin awesome. Cornell is still at the top of his vocal game and the band is kick ass. I really dig the moody vocals and the speedups in the instruments throughout the cd.

I can't stop playing Shadow Of The Sun: my favorite on the cd.

Sorry for bumping a really old thread, but I just had to give praise for this album (sounds like it came out a month ago, not two years).

While we're rehashing...

I just picked up Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" and must say it is....j/k

I planned on getting the album (Audioslave) for the longest but havent for one reason or another. I will pick it up after Turkey Day.
