Excellent trend in releasing CD with extra DVD
I recently bought the Strokes CD 'Is This It' that came with a free DVD of their videos and a couple of live performances. It's a great little extra and I've seen a lot of bands doing.
I'm sure this is a new way in which music companies are trying to thwart off piracy. I think it's great because it's giving fans something more for their money. The cost of adding an additional DVD is pretty minimal I would think and the record companies should give us something more for our money.
Some other bands that have done this:
Ash - Free All Angels
Dave Matthews Band - Busted Stuff
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
Eminem - The Eminem Show
U2- 1990 - 200?
System of a Down - Toxicity
Incubus - Morning View
Any others people can think of?

Jurassic 5's upcoming disc will include a DVD, as well.
I think it's great, too, especially when coupled with sensible pricing (e.g., the Strokes disc is $8 at Circuit City this week). Those two factors combined would really cut down on file sharing and pirating if it was applied to more artists, I would think.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
Question about the J5 disc: I've seen both a LE DVD and a non-DVD version for presale, at the same price. Is the non-DVD version even going to be released until the other is sold through?
I actually don't care that much for the video content, but it's a great trend. Much like movie extras that I never watch, yet want to own

Kind of the opposite approach: I bought the movie "The Wash" and it came with the soundtrack cd inside also. I think this is another great idea. It would be sweet if they included the movie soundtrack along with the DVD of the movie. I know some bands that release DVDs include an audio cd along with it.

The Donnas new CD comes with a DVD.
I was just talking to my friend about this trend, I don't know how to cure the record industry, but adding value to a CD is a good start.

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion: Plastic Fang has now been repackaged with a DVD that includes two videos and several live, radio and TV performances.
One Big Trip has a CD on one side with tracks by Hieroglyphics, Del the Funky Homosapien, Dilated Peoples, Royce da 5'9" and others. The other side is a DVD with a full feature length film.

Has that JSBX repackage come out yet? I've been holding off for months to buy that album and have been checking regularly for when it comes with a DVD.

While I don't mind extra anything, some of these so called "extras" are about as impressive as a free AOL disc.

The disturbed cd was well worth the $19.99 I paid at Circuit City for it. The coolest single cd packaging ever, the metal symbol, red leather etc. But I admit it would probably only appeal to hard core fans... which is probably why it was so limited to begin with, not meant for eberyone IMHO.

No offense but that limited edition was ridicously priced. I wasn't going to pay $25 for the cd.
