Thoughts on RA's Demolition?

What do you guys think about Ryan Adams' release of demos? Although there are a few songs on there that don't exactly thrill me ("Nuclear", "You Will Always Be the Same"), I love the tracks. They are more closely akin to old Whiskeytown songs as well as Heartbreaker, the best Ryan Adams has ever been.

I listened to it once in the car and I wasn't all that impressed.

They may be more like Heartbreaker but they're not even close to being as good.

He'd be a fool to release that 5-disc set.

I do love Dear Chicago and the Jesus song that closes the album.

Got The album this weekend and I think it is quite good(Better than most crap out there). The only thing I notice is that the duration is only 40 minutes. Interesting, since he is such a prolific songwriter and have said in itererviews that he does not abide by the record comany rules on the anmount of material he should release

Is this a sign of the high life taking it's toll ?

I've listened to it only a few times since getting, it good, but being a bunch of demos, outtakes, Demolition is nothing to rave about.

I bought it on its date of release and still haven't listened to the whole thing. Then again, there's been tons of music coming out that I've been buying lately. So, it's not that I don't like it, just that I like a lot of the other stuff I've purchased better. I will say that Gold and Demolition are my two least favorite things he's ever done...I miss the days of Faithless Street and Stranger's Almanac.

I kept hearing all these rave reviews about Beck's new album - so, of course, I picked up the Beck album along with the Ryan Adams album when they came out last week.

I cannot for the life of me make it through more than 2 or 3 songs on the Beck album before utter boredom takes its toll.

Whereas the Ryan Adams album at first didn't strike me as a masterpiece, many of the tracks have grown on me to the point where I can't stop humming them. The phrase "gonna die alone and sad" from "Dear Chicago" keeps playing over and over in my head and has been torturing me ever since I took my shower this morning. "Nuclear" doesn't do much for me either. Nor does the closer "Jesus (Don't Touch My Baby)". But as for the run from "Cry on Demand" on through to "Chin Up, Cheer Up," I'm astounded at the quality of these throw-away ditties.

I can't wait to see Ryan's take on these tracks when I see him live in a couple weeks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't find this album all that interesting. It's alright...it's just boring. Certainly not the masterpiece that everyone in the world is claiming it to be.

"Nuclear" is my least favorite song on the album. He sounds like the Goo Goo Dolls. I've written a review of it that should be up soon at www.tinymixtapes.com. It's kinda slow being posted because there are so many others that have to be reviewed.

Gdrlv- I know what you mean about the Whiskeytown days. I wish I could've seen them when they were still a band.

For those of you into picking up singles and rarities there's a NUCLEAR single out with an unreleased b-side called "Blue".

I didn't pick it up cuz it was 10 bucks but it's out there.
