I still waiting for Amazon to ship my new PT album.
I've got the cd single promo with 6 songs (3 new) and the new stuff sounds very good.
They seem to be a little bit more metal this time. They do sound very tight. Hope they do a decent American tour.
It would also be nice if they had some promotion from the Record Company on this one.

I actually found it in Best Buy of all places when I went to pick up some DVD's..being an old fart I liek their earlier stuff as it tends to have more of the old 70's prog rock sound but even the newr stuff by them is better than anything my kids are listening to

Stupid Dream
Lightbulb Sun (worth it for the title track alone)
Recordings (great to hear the full version of "Buying New Soul"
I haven't heard a band I like this much in YEARS. They truly are a gifted group of musicians. I highly recommend everyone gives "In Absentia" a listen. I'm hard pressed to find anything negative to say about any of the tracks.

Also, just a quick FYI for those of you into darker metal:
"Blackwater Park" by Opeth was produced by Steve Wilson (founding member/singer of Porcupine Tree). He also produced their 2 newest CD's which will be released in November and March '03 respectively. While Opeth is certainly much harder, their quieter moments echo some similar styles that you hear in Porcupine Tree's music. Not for everyone, but wel worth a listen.

I may be a philistine, but I have to ask for examples. "Prog Rock" is one of those vague genre labels that I have a hard time latching onto bands, especially new bands.
Edit: Nice merge.

its really not a new term ..older prog rock groups would be Yes, King Crimson, Hawkwind, Floyd, Krann, Gong, etc..some of the newer would be Djam Karet, Dream theater, PTree , etc..yea it has gotten a little more vague as time has gone by ..

excellent group. I just discovered them last fall and have bought quite a bit of thier back catalogue. Its a shame they have not gotten bigger than they have. I think the progressive label they got stuck with in there early days has not helped

After all the praise this group got on this forum around the time In Absentia came out, I decided to try them since I'm a prog rock fan also. Took me a couple listens but I really like this album now. Haven't got around to checking out their back catalogue though. What order should I try them out in?

Easisly one of my new favorites. A friend at work turned me onto them last fall. I now own all but two of their catalog titles. Amazing stuff. I highly recommend you go and find "Stupid Dream", "Lightbulb Sun", "Stars Die", and "Signify". I don't think they write bad songs, just varying degrees of great ones.
