Martin Sexton

Are there any Martin Sexton fans here? I saw him open for John Mayer last month. I really really enjoyed him. Are any of you here fans of his. Can you reccomend which album of his I should get first? He's playing here in St.Louis later this month but I can't go, the venue is 21+ only, I'm 20, damnit.

I'm a HUGE Martin fan. I would recommend getting "Black Sheep" first. It's his second album and has a lot of his classic songs that he always pulls from live. From then you could get each consecutive release to see hows he evolves musically, but that's your call. You really can't go wrong with any of his CD's, but that one will give you a good idea of where his roots are musically. One thing for sure is, nothing on disk can compare to the performance he gives live so don't let that limit your impression. Don't leave out his double live CD "Live Wide Open". Great recording of what he is capable of and incredible sound for a live recording. If you thought he was good opening up for John Mayer, try to catch him headlining his own show, he will leave you speechless.

Yep, he's great, and he puts on an amazing show. His voice is one of the most amazing I have ever heard; the range he has rivals any singer that I can recall, from deep husky blues to swiss yodeling (yes, that's right, yodeling!).
