the TOOL speaks...
As perennial host of MTV's Total Request Live, Carson Daly seems poised to replace Dick Clark as "America's oldest teenager." He doesn't exactly fancy this title, however. "I'm no Dick Clark," he insists to TV Guide Online. "I obviously just can't do [TRL] forever. It's like a player leaving baseball when it's not fun anymore... It's definitely not that time right now, but it's clear that I'm definitely getting older and growing away from that scene.
"My life doesn't revolve all around MTV, TRL or just pop music," he adds. "One of the things I'm trying to do is get over that. I just had my 29th birthday. I've been at MTV five years. When I was 24, my life was a lot of concerts, a lot of hanging out with the artists, good times and partying and things that any 24-year-old with all access would do. That was fun and I still do that, but I've evolved. I'm more serious and care about more things than people would expect."
Hence, Daly's been branching out. He's hosting NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly — whose second season in late night kicks off in September. He's also radio DJ-ing and developing his very own record label. Does MTV mind their golden boy moonlighting? "I'm in a world where there could be a lot of resentment, and there's not," Daly points out. "I've been open and honest with all of them from the top down. They've been nothing but supportive of me and what I want to do 10 years from now, and they're willing to help me get there."
Has TRL — which feeds kids a daily diet of Britney Spears and Eminem videos — ever fully reflected Daly's musical taste? "No, never," he says firmly. "I love music. I love everything. I have an iPod with 2,000 songs on it that range from reggae to Sinatra to pop to rock and hip hop. I know it's a clichéd answer, but I love everything."

his career might go down, but the guy has money coming out of every hole. he could pretty much retire 5 times over right now
he's a tool. and I really don't like him much (replaced my favorite radio dj some time back on kroq) but the guy atleast is trying to move away from mtv. that place has been a sinking ship for some time now.
