I need to pull out that Shipping News record, Mike. I haven't listened to that in ages. And how is that Drive-By Truckers GDRLV? I have Alabama Ass Whuppin, a good record.

Today, for me:

Tortoise -- Millions Now Living
Calla -- Televised
Interpol -- Here Come the Bright Lights
And the iPod

Also, the Doug Martsch solo record, the new Low and the new Black Heart Procession. All good and all departures from what you might expect.

Sundog, did you get the package yet?

That's the full length, which comes out at the end of August. They have an EP out now, which you should just get. The three best songs on the album are the songs from the EP (another Strokes scenario in that regards). I think you'll like it.

The new Liars album just arrived at my desk. I've seen them live three times now and I hated them the first two times but liked them at the Siren festival in Coney Island this past weekend. After one listen of the album, I'm sold on them. Really good post-punk/no-wave.

New Black Heart Procession? Three? If so, I already have that one, but if not - what is it called. I'd love to check it out. I'll have to investigate that Doug Martsch solo album as well...I'm glad to see someone listen to the same music I do!

No, not Three. I forget the name of the new one (I didn't put the title into my iPod when I ripped it) but it actually has a tropicali/salsa feel. It takes some getting used to, but I like it. It comes out in October.

I just got:

1) The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - BEST ALBUM OF 2002 SO FAR.
2) Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - rather overrated but, not a bad disc.
3) The Strokes - Is This It - after dwadling on getting this album, I finally did and, lo and behold, it's pretty darn good! Though hardly the second coming.

Oops - I didn't pay attention to the words after "Interpol," and assumed that you were listening to the EP. Are the 3 songs the same on the EP and the full-length, or are they different versions? If they're the same I'll just wait for the album.

I haven't listened to it closely enough to tell for sure, but as far as I can tell they are. But the EP can be had for $3. It's really, really good.

I like it a bit more than Alabama Ass Whuppin'. It's a rock opera that somehow ties together a fictional Southern band called Betamax Guillotine to the Lynard Skynard plane crash. The songs are mostly really good, though a few of the spoken word tracks will probably grow old pretty fast. Also, a lot of the songs on the album are explicitly about Skynard. It's a really ambitious record that's a bit heavy handed at times, but it rocks in a way that few bands do nowadays.

and gave it a few listens. Thanks for sending it. The Hot Snakes stuff is cool, but with both albums back to back the sameness drowns out some good songs. Those are some weird songs by the Country Teasers. I like 'em. Kinda like a slowed down Broke Revue.

Got a lot of CDs here, all the ones I lent my cousin when his were stolen:

Hot Snakes/Country Teasers CD-R
Pussy Galore – Sugarsh*t Sharp
The White Stripes - De Stijl
Los Straitjackets - s/t
Dan Melchior's Broke Revue - Heavy Dirt
Primus - Frizzle Fry
Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Velvet Underground - s/t
Southern Culture on the Skids - Ditch Diggin'
Andre Williams - Silky
Boss Hog - s/t
Oblivians - Popular Favorites
Holly Golightly - Serial Girlfriend
Boss Hog - Whiteout
Bob Log III - School Bus
Demolition Doll Rods - TLA
The Gories - I Know You Be Houserockin'
The Dirtbombs - Ultraglide in Black
The White Stripes - s/t

I didn't think about that with both on the same album. Sorry. I just saw that they would both fit. Pay attention to 4 & 5 on the first album and "Suicide Invoice," "Why Does It Hurt?" and "Unlisted" on the second. Country Teasers are a strange band. They're Scottish. They have some great records. I thought you might dig them.

It's all good, I'll check out those songs. Just haven't been able to listen too closely yet.

But I did listen to the Teasers' "It's My Duty" quite a bit to try and decipher those lyrics, and then gave up.

I could have sworn this has been out for a while. In fact I just picked it up last night and I have seen it on display for two weeks.

Yes, that SFA album actually came out last year. The "Today's CDs" thread title is a bit misleading - this aren't albums that were just released, but rather ones that we have been listening to in the past few hours/days/whatever. We've been doing this thread for close to two years now, but the fact that this particular one was started on a Tuesday can be confusing.

Nice Call! I was also listening to this today. I made a copy of all the mixes from the vinyl, pretty nice.
