Dio's Pretty Cool!

Ronnie James Dio "Passes The Torch" To Tenacious D

Actor/ Musician Jack Black's Wacky Publicity Stunt Following The Release Of Their Song, "Dio."

Blabbermouth.net reports:

Ronnie James Dio on the Tenacious D song "Dio" and the latter's bizarre request for the diminutive frontman to "pass the torch" to the group as part of a publicity stunt:

"Somebody called me and said, 'You know, this band Tenacious D did this song about you, and they want you to retire," said the singer. "I went, 'No, I don't think he'd do that? Would he?' He said, 'Yeah, they want you to stop playing. I guess they don't like you.' 'Nah, couldn't be.' So I listened to it myself. I went, 'Rubbish. They're saying great things about me. They want to be like me. They want to be 'like Mike.' They want to be like me more than anything.'"

"I think it's great, and so I heard it and I thought it was wonderful. And I saw Jack (Black) and he went, 'You weren't mad at the...' 'No, I think that's great.' He said, 'Could you do me a favor?' I said, 'Yeah sure,' and suddenly they pulled this damn torch out, like as big as the one at the Statue of Liberty. And he goes, 'Can we take a photo for our publicity thing with you passing the torch?' 'Of course, Jack.' So I did, and they loved that. But, no, I thought it was great. I just love what they do. They're just so intense and so funny. They just absolutely kill me."

A picture of Dio passing the torch can be found at the Tenacious D's web site at tenaciousd.com.

Who says Ronnie doesn't have a sense of humor?

Jack Black even makes an appearance in the new Dio video, "Push."

(For what it's worth, Dio's new album Killing The Dragon is outstanding! Easily the best Dio album since The Last In Line.)

That is too funny!!!

I'm sure DIO also realizes it's good publicity for him too.

[wandering a little way from the point]

I recall reading somewhere that RJD - unless he is feeling ill - always comes out of his touring van/trailer into the parking lot after concerts to chat with fans and sign things for them.

Although he is rightfully proud of his continuing vocal prowess (I'm not always so sure of the use he puts it to) this suggests to me a kind of humility: he knows that the fans attending his shows matter and that an hour of his time afterwards adds incomparable value to the cost of their ticket purchase/trravelling etc.

I've seen Dio live several times, and he and his band are ALWAYS entertaining.

The Sacred Heart tour was a lot of fun, too!

Dio is among the elite - Dio the band and Ronnie as a singer. Any doubters should listen to Holy Diver, The Last In Line, and Killing The Dragon!

GREAT stuff!

Best voice in metal. Ever.

For anyone interesting, this page has Dio mp3's from his VERY early days (I'm talking the 50's and early 60's). Hear Dio sing classics like 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco'.

Dio
Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildebeests and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.

It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.

And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Raow!
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash baby.
Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter to me.
And a smaller one for KG.
Go! Go! Dio! Dio!

Dio rules, seen him three times. And yes, he did hang outside the bus and signed every last thing for every last person, took pictures, etc...he would even chat with people for a few minutes, and would even remember everyone's name! He would tell stories about some of the individual items ("Funny story behind that picture...", etc.). Beyond match in every respect.
