Well, for what it's worth I find J-Live to be boring as hell also.

He is getting pretty commercial, I dont know if I would say pop though.

My top 3?

I gotta say:
#1 - Will Smith
#2 - Juvenile
#3 - Puff Daddy

Haaa.....ok...really...
(these aren't in order, just top 3)
- Kweli's gotta be there...
- Rakim.
- Black Thought of the Roots

* I dont think anyone's said Mos Def and I guess that's understandable, but I feel that when he's on, he's really on [especially w/ Kweli]. (BTW, when the HELL is Blackstar Galactica coming out?)

Hon. mentions:
Eminem: he would have made my list (he's a master lyrically) but he doesnt have enough to talk about and none of what he says is really deep

Canibus: he would have also made it if his last album wasn't so bad. I loved him lyrically (always hated his production, but that's not what defines an mc to me), until 'C True Hollywood Stories', when he disappointed me lyrically. His verse on 'Beasts from the East' will always be one of my favourites though...

Royce the 5'9": Trained by eminem, he's really good, but again, not too deep (pretty good wordplay though)

50 Cent: Some nice wordplay, a bit shallow. For gangsta rap, though, he's one of the best IMO.

Biggie: Good mc, but the relevance thing again...

Common: I really have to be in a certain mood to listen to his stuff...

Yeah that Oochie wally stuff (along with some of the songs towards the end of Stillmatic, and the couple of albums before this last one) is what takes nas off my list, even the hon. mention list. But damn the first 7 songs of stillmatic are really good.

Respiration is a sweet song, my favourite from that album is Thieves in the Night though, other good ones are Definition, Re:<br>Definition, and Twice Inna Lifetime has good verses from everyone...

EDIT: Just wanted to add that Talkin' to You (on Sounbombing 2) is a tight Blackstar track that not everyone knows about...

DVDHO 07-25-02 02:41 PM

Pac
Eminem
Scarface

My favorite producer is Dr.Dre

The Dude absent member 07-28-02 05:20 AM

1. Kool Keith
2. El P
