Someone told me this last night at a pool party. It ruined most of the night for me. However, I did go to the car and grab my greatest hits - The Who CD and we played it for the duration of the party. Sad news, :(.
|
:(
And Yahoo doesn't even have the decency to put his name on the front page. "Bass guitarist for The Who dies at 57". Like he was some session player or something. |
Damn, they were my fave band in my teen years!
I'm still depressed at work today with my Who CD's playing in my earphones... First it was George Harrison and now John Entwistle. Just in the last year we've shrunk the two great fab fours from that era down to half their size! :( Any word yet on their concert tour plans at this point? Are they going through with it/delaying it? Part of me wouldn't mind seeing them with a "hole" for bass player for a televised concert as part of the tour by the remaining present members so everyone could be reminded how big a part of the Who he really was. A gesture like that would certainly remind of us of the groups with soul unlike a current plastic performer who wouldn't sing a song in a concert when a power transformer went down. |
I don't think they have anything left to prove, and I think they should hang it up.
|
I was told by a good friend of Townshend's that they would go on. It seems he's right. The Who will tour anyway:

You have got to be kidding me. -eek-
Well... |
And it starts Monday. How the hell can they even begin to do this?!?!?

A friend sent me this:
--------- 28 June 2002 Tour to continue Pete and Roger have decided that the tour will carry on, commencing with the Hollywood Bowl show on Monday. Bass player Pino Palladino has been drafted in for the shows. The Las Vegas and Irvine shows will be rescheduled for new dates. ---------- Like everyone has posted here, I am also extremely bummed by John's passing. I'm surprised by them continuing the tour, but I'm also glad- Okay- my 8th row tix have something to do with my being glad.. but it could also be looked upon as a "thank you" to John from Pete and Roger. I'm certain there will be some sort of tribute done at each show in memory of John..... 5.15 live will NEVER be the same again (if any of you don't know what I mean by that, pick up Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD- it's amazing!!!!). The tour will definitely be strange without him. Stage left is definitely going to be a bit empty.... but they somehow maintained the raw energy when Keith passed- Does anyone know anything about Pino Palladino? |
By the way- WhoGirl- I know exactly what you mean about shedding tears for someone you don't know-
I'm not afraid to admit that when Jackie Gleason died in '87, I bawled my eyes out as if he was a member of my family. Hang in there, crank the Who, and I'm sure John knows how much he has touched yours and all of his fans' lives. Again, RIP, John! |

Wow, I'm surprised they are going on with the concerts. Pete and Roger are going to have a hard time with it I would think.
I was thinking over the past 24 hours since John died. I grew up in the '70s and heard what is considered classic rock the first go-round. Led Zep, Beatles, Stones, Who, etc. I grew tired of that stuff in the 80's and shifted heavily to "alternative" music. I still like those groups I mentioned, but something about the Who moves me more. The punk rock music that I loved was a lot more closely aligned to the Who than to those other bands. Anyway, it's sad... |
I had to post a picture of the bass he designed called "The Buzzard".
I LOVE the design and it just shows --again-- how great he was/is in the Bass playng community. http://www.mmjp.or.jp/MIYAJI/SPT/image/buzz1sid.jpg |

STEADY. |
Definately gonna miss him doing "Boris the Spider" live!
Anyone heard how the tour is going now without him? |

I hate to say it, but - WHAT A FREAKING IDIOT!!!
The guy's got a heart problem that's so bad that he's taking medication for it - AND HE DOES COKE??? MORON!!! Look, I don't mean to be disrespectful of the Who fans (I'm a "casual" Who fan myself), but he damn well knew that people die from taking cocaine due to heart attacks/heart failure. How stupid was it of him to be doing coke - at that age, in that physical condition. Might as well call this one "suicide." You know why I'm so disgusted? Because it's a huge waste/loss of talent, and because this guy had a friend and bandmate die of substance abuse. Now Entwistle is just another Rock and Roll cliche. "Won't Get Fooled Again?" Yeah, right. |
