GOLD CD discs -- any good???
I've been seeing a lot of the Gold discs on EBAY. They say they are OOP and sell for pretty good money. Some of these are still available. Are these really any good?? Are the worth the extra cash? How do they compare to SACD?
Also I noticed that Meat Loaf has two versions. One says slipcase and the other doesn't. Anyone know the difference?
Spending most of my time in the DVD forum, I don't really keep up with music. Also, any other sites like DVDTalk devoted to Music and CD's?

Those are typically Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs remasters...and while some of them are are noticably better sounding than the original most you can't even tell a difference.
MFSL actually uses the master tapes to remaster so sometimes you might get a different guitar solo or something like that.
There is a newgroup where you can grab those MFSL discs from too if you wanted to sample them.
As far as comparing to SACD...they don't. SACD is high resolution audio (up to 192Khz). Gold Ultra Discs are still just 44Khz 16bit.
