Violent Femmes reissue!
Boy, am I glad that I never upgraded my cassette dub copy of Violent Femmes' first album. Rhino released a great two-disc reissue of it today. The first disc has the complete album, a few bonus tracks, and a bunch of demos. The second disc (which I have yet to listen to) has fifteen live songs. Very nice!
I think this one kind of slipped under the radar. I didn't even know it was coming out till the local alternative radio station said something about it on its "music minute" on Friday. I haven't seen any ads for it or anything.

I'm happy with the CD I have. It already has a couple of bonus tracks, but this looks like a worthy double disc. What a great recording... very much was a big influence on my tastes back in '83/'84.

I heard the Violent Femmes in '91 I believe when they opened up for the B-52s. I was blown away by the music (and left after a few songs into the B-52s), this is one of the bands that I hadn't heard when I was in high school but wish that I had.
Oh well. The new release sounds nice, I plan on picking it up.
By the way, since this album was oriiginally released in '82 (?), the little girl in the photo is now a 24 year old (or older).

I'm not really sure what all "remastered" entails but I'm curious if this cd sounds better than the original. With the copy I have now I have to turn it way up and then when the next cd comes on it's way too loud. I'm curious if this reissue would kind of even it out more.

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. This cassette was in my car stereo when it got stolen in 1995 and I never upgraded to CD---all I have left is the empty case !
One of the best albums of the 80's, IMO. Great combination of a very unique sound, stripped-down and simple, and VERY tight songwriting---great melodies.

...hmmmm...this memory has got me riled up! Man, I hate getting things stolen!!! If the person reading this is the SOB who stole my stereo out of a white Geo Tracker in the movie theater parking lot of Beverly, MA---I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN!! And when I discover your identity, I'm gonna pull a Charles Bronson/Death Wish on your a$$ until you're BEGGING to buy me a new stereo, AND this new 2-disc Violent Femmes release!
But I digress.......anyways, great album.

I thought New Times was one of their better albums.
