MY Sammy Hagar & David Lee Roth (& Michael Anthony) review, 6/1/02 show
Looked like a pretty good turnout on a beautiful day. The pavillion was absolutely full and the lawn was about 1/2 full.
Sammy hit the stage first, following a 10-minute video about his career. His stage had about 50 fans up on stage with him, around 25 on each side in mini-bleachers. After every few songs, he'd yell "Waitress!" and a hot chick (diff one each time) brought him a drink.
He played most of his solo and Van Halen hits (for which Michael Anthony played along with!!) but "Right Now" was left out and some people complained. The slowest part of the set was the 1/2-speed acoustic "Where Eagles Fly" -- whole lawn sat for that one or went to the bathroom.
Roth did a lot of old material I didn't think he still played ("Atomic Punk," "Ice Cream Man"), but his voice sounded great on some and has seen better days on others (the high notes/squeals). He DID get the crowd jazzed up though, he's a great performer nonetheless. The only solo song he played was "Yankee Rose" - all the others were VH. "Jump" was saved for the encore.
All in all, I went home very happy
This show was about an hour south of Chicago, so I guess most area fans bought tics for this one versus next weekend's show an hour north of the city. Evidence? Everyone at my show got a free lawn ticket for next week's show...

Funny idea from a local paper...
The Chicago tribune said that David Lee Roth, in his open-chested leather shirt, leather pants, scraggly long hair and now-wrinkled face looks just like Khan from Star Trek 2...
Unfortunately, I have to agree. He DID look like Khan saturday night

I wanted to go see this show just for the kicks of it but it is a
pain for me to get out there w/o having a car in the city.
Did Hagar/Roth do any songs together maybe as an encore?
