What the HELL is up with Bob Mould?

Huge fan of everything up to the Bob Mould album. After that it's pretty sketchy although I did like some of Body of Song.
Warehouse Songs and Stories, Copper Blue and Workbook are 3 of my favorite albums of all time.
By the way he's a friend of Dorothy, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Remember when he came on The Daily Show to talk about writing the theme and then sang Little Drummer Boy with Craig Kilborn?

but not the electronic stuff.Don't mind artists experimenting with electronicia (U2, REM, & others also dabbled in it), but it seems to rarely come off as well as they had hoped. Seems to be an especially hard genre to cross over into...imagine Dylan trying to do it as opposed to, say, his country phase (Nashville Skyline, John Wesley Harding, etc.). IMHO, they should just incorporate some of this sparingly into the style they're more comfortable doing, or should do some extensive core audience testing before releasing full CDs of this stuff.
Or maybe should just record it as a vanity project for their own personal enjoyment & not release it on their label. Maybe offer it to fan club members.
Have any of these electronic experiments (from non-electronic artists) ever done well commercially?

Bob Mould has a new album, "Beauty And Ruin" coming out on June 3. His last, "The Silver Age" is my favorite of his solo albums, so I am pretty excited about this one.

Re: What the HELL is up with Bob Mould?
how about a 2 year bump instead of waiting 6 .......
his new release "Patch The Sky" is absolutely top notch
55 f'n years old and putting kids making guitar driven music these days to shame
just wish I didn't buy the iTunes version as the download I burned seems really muddied
and yes, Modulate was kind of a weird diversion for him ..... I remember getting to work the record (disti) and was just happy to be selling a Mould project .... got to set up a Tower in store with him for that release and meet him .... was very nice

Yeah, he is nice. He seems to play Austin gigs pretty often, so I've driven up a couple of times to check him out in the last few years. He is cool about chatting up fans and signing shit.
