Of recent vintage:

Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
Grown on me over time, but i always preferred them rocking

U2 - Pop

RHCP - One Hot Minute
Dave Navarro was not a good fit

Bush- The Science of Things. Too electronic for my tastes. Thankfully they returned to their roots on Golden State, which is excellent.

Spin Doctors- Turn it Upside Down. Terrible in comparison to Pocket Full of Kryptonite

Pearl Jam- Yield. I still like it, but it's easily their weakest album.

Rage Against the Machine- The Battle of Los Angeles. Just too rappy, not heavy enough for my tastes.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Pavement - Brighten The Corners. Huge dissapointment...

Frank Black - Cult of Ray. Yuck.

And another vote for Ministry's Filth Pig.

Signed,

I dig Kid A quite a bit and you're all crazy...

I find these assessments tremendously interesting, since:
- "Adore" was by far my favorite Pumpkins release (and tour),
- "Pop" still sounds fresh to me, (especially when compared to the more traditional "rock" sound of ATYCLB) and
- "Up" contains some of my very favorite R.E.M. lyrics (Especially on "Hope" and "Sad Professor")

I was far more disappointed with the follow-ups to these albums. "MACHINA/Machines of God" is virtually unlistenable. "ATYCLB" initially struck me as drab and uninteresting - but has grown on me over time (and many, many live performances) to rank up their with U2's best. And "Reveal" is huge step backwards from the cooly detached sound of "Up."

To each his own, I suppose.

Kid-A has become one of my all time best albums.
Guess you either love or hate it.

Sugar Ray- anything released after Lemonade and Brownies.

311 Transistor- This album sickened me...you could tell it was headed this way, by the way the self titled "blue" album was. I still sorta liked this album, but it really lacked the edge of what made them different and who they were. IMO Grassroots is one of the best albums ever made- it was raw, and clear and just damn good. Transistor lacked even the slightest bit of attitude that Grassroots had.

I'm sure there's a few more that will come to me later when I'm not thinking about how badazz 311 used to be.

I like the new Michael Jackson album. I think he did make his comeback. Also I think that the new corn song is really good. I think that their album is gonna ROCK!!
