Trav Demsey leaves The Living End
MEDIA RELEASE
THU FEB 21st, 2001 - THE LIVING END PART WITH DRUMMER TRAVIS
The Living End have parted ways with Travis Demsey, their drummer since May 1996. The split is totally amicable, and due to the very rock and roll reason of "musical differences".
"It's more an agreement than a split," says guitarist and singer Chris Cheney. "Since my car accident last September we've revaluated ourselves as human beings. We still regard Travis as a brilliant drummer but he's probably realised we're on different pages and that he's not the right drummer for this band. We respect his decision to leave and wish him the best".
Travis Demsey explains: "After five and a half years, I want to explore new avenues and musical ventures. The decision is very amicable".
The band are looking for a replacement as they work on demos for their third album. It will be helmed by U.S. producer Jerry Finn, who has worked with Rancid, Green Day and Superdrag, and mixed the first Living End album.
"He knows how to get the energy out of the band, but he knows how to work with pop melodies and harmonies as well," Chris says. "It's hard to say how the music will end up on this third record. We've never been a band that sat down and had a game plan. We just wanted to grow as musicians and songwriters, and experiment with our ideas. Our second album had more improvisation and freedom than the first, and that's definitely what we're searching for on our third album."
Emerging from Melbourne's punk/psychobilly scene, The Living End quickly established themselves as a worldwide attraction. Their awesome live performances established them a large following in Australia, the United States (where they have toured with the Offspring, Green Day and the Warped tour with NOFX and Rancid), Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan and New Zealand where they constantly play festivals.
Their first album "The Living End" (October 1998) sold 600,000 copies worldwide. The second "Roll On" (November 2000) has shifted 400,000 through the globe.
The Living End were forced to take a lengthy break from the road from last September when Chris Cheney and his girlfriend were involved in a car crash which left him with a broken leg.
The leg is healing slowly, although the Living End had to abandon plans to join the Van Warped tour through Australia in March and April.
The band are looking for a replacement drummer as soon as possible.
