Does MTV2 only play R&B stuff?
I've had MTV2 for about 3 weeks now on my digital cable system, but have been extremely disappointed with MTV2. I remember a few years watching MTV2 on my dad's satellite system and being intrigued by this station because they were playing cool videos I never saw on MTV. EVERY single time I have tuned into MTV2 I only see rap, hip hop or R&B. Do they ever play anything else?
I mostly watch in mid-morning. Maybe at night it's different.
I also have MTV Rocks and that really blows chunks, too. Just more of the same 'ol rap-core stuff. Classic VH1 is about the only channel I have not seen before this month that is fun to watch (the old videos are hilarious).

They play a good variety of everything, you've just been unlucky. Sometimes they just have videos, and play an assortment, other times they have blocks of certain types of music, i.e. soul, rap, rock etc.
If you want all rock music, you need MTV X. It's all rock music from the 80's to present, with no commercials and no VJ's. The downside is that the music is on some kind of a loop, either 8 hours or 12 hours because if you watch a while in the morning, then a while in the evening, you'll see the same videos in the same order.

Heres the deal, a couple of years ago M2 (as it was once known) was an outstanding service whos playlist could have even been described as progressive or eclectic. Now that MTV has become anything but music videos, they have taken their collection of horseshit videos and transformed M2 into MTV2. The only hope of any variety is to channel flip through all of the MTV networks niche channels (MTVX, VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul, VH1 Country, etc.)

I think it's the fact that you're tuning in in the morning. Mornings is when they have shows like MTV2 Hip Hop, where they show Nelly videos, MTV2 R&B, where they show Nelly videos and MTV2 Soul, where they show Otis Redding videos. No, just kidding, they show Nelly videos.
I agree that MTV2 has gone way downhill. Even a year ago there was a lot of variety in their playlist. Now it seems like they just keep playing the same 20-30 videos all day long.

I have to agree with atlantamoi. All i ever see on MTV2 is hip hop and i've had it for about 6 months now.
MTVX is the best music station out there right now. I hope that doesn't get changed like MTV2 (my friends said it used to be awesome).

MTV2 used to play an even mix of alternative and hip hop. Now its almost 90% hip hop. I usually only flip past now when I'm totally bored. I used to always check it for a good video during a commercial break - but those never occur anymore.
