Songs you like from a genre you don't normally like.

I have never been a big country fan. I've never knocked the fans or the genre, it's just never been for me. However, much to my girlfriends dismay (because she has a strong dislike for country music), I have found myself stopping on the country music videos and kind of hovering. I try to convince myself it's because country music, hands down, has the best looking female singers, but alas, I'm starting to dig some of the songs too. There are a few good looking women in the alternative/rock/hip hop/other genre's, but I feel a good argument can be established for the hottie women of country music (but that is another thread ).

That being said, he are a few songs I've been digging from the country genre.

Jo Dee Messina - Bring On The Rain (I was flicking through channels one night and I didn't even pay attention to the song for the first couple of seconds. She is damn_sexy and that video is hot. The song is pretty good too.

Billy Gilman - Elisabeth and There's a Hero (I saw both these videos and this kid has probably one of the best voices I've ever heard from someone his age. I've saw a special on him this weekend (maybe it was before they were stars or something) and he seems pretty well grounded).

Toby Keith - I Wanna Talk About Me (Funny video, funnier lyrics).

So what are some songs you like from a genre you generally don't listen to?

Mine would be country music too. Every once in a while, a really good song comes along. In general, I enjoy Dwight Yokam and Alan Jackson.

Hey it's country music for me too but I am in love with the music of...

Kim Richey
Alison Krauss
Kelly Willis

All three of these artists are considered country but it's not "twang" country and it's not contemporary country.

Alison Krauss is definitely bluegrass but also has some other styles mixed in.

The other two have been ousted from the Nashville community. The Nashville community is very strange, they either like you or they don't no matter how good you are, and these two are very good. Kim Richey and Kelly Willis are just fabulous yet have had lack-luster careers because they are not accepted into the Nashville scene even though they have several albums each.

I highly recommend all three.

Country as well. While remodeling my house, my GF's father has the country station on all day so I hear every now and then a song I like.

Tim McGraw - Cowboy in Me, Angry All The Time
David Ball - Riding With Private Malone
George Strait - Run
Travis Tritt - Love of a Woman
Garth Brooks - Thunder Rolls
