No one at work had any idea who I was talking about, so maybe I'm on my own here, but Juan Garcia Esquivel, best known for his "Space Ace Bachelor Pad" music died in Mexico last week.

He did a killer track with Combustible Edison called "miniskirt"
That's about all I know about him.

I was bummed to hear he'd died although I too had thought he'd died around '95 or so? There was a good show on NPR's "Fresh Air" about him yesterday. His music was groovy, it would've been great included in "Ghost World" I think....

Wow. I hadn't heard this. Of all the famous people I've heard about dying the past year, this makes me the saddest (of course, it's not a big surprise, though). In 1995 when his music was being released on CD I became bitten HARD by the Esquivel bug. His music is so playful and fun. What amazes me is the time period it was released. It must have been a shock to hear his music next to "normal" big band sounds. I will always love listening to the way he arranged things. Simply a genious.
