Admit it, who likes Barry Manilow?
I'm not ashamed to say that I enjoy his music. Give me "Could This Be Magic?" or "Somewhere in the Night" over Destiny's Child or Dave Matthews any day of the week.

. Barry Manilow's otay, but if I ever go that far I wouldn't be surprised if someone presented me with a new jacket and placed me in a padded room. But I've seen Dave 4 times(with Band twice, with Tim Reynolds, and solo at Farm Aid), proposed to my wife at a DMB show, own all of the real live store purchased albums, run a DMB live music FTP site, and am even a card carrying member of the Dave Matthews Band fan club. So you could say I'm a bit biased(obsessed freak works too).

I've never owned any of his albums and haven't heard any of his newer recordings...but I grew up hearing his songs on the radio, and liked quite a few of them. Of course, I enjoyed some of his commercial jingles, too (like the "You deserve a break today" thing for McDonald's and the "Like a good neighbor" refrain for State Farm). I've always found it sort of amusing, though, that he didn't actually write "I Write the Songs."

I saw them in concert. I got the tickets for free and they were STILL too expensive. Dave Matthews in concert is rather like watching Mr. Creosote figure skating. Very painful, pretty grotesque, almost laughable, and the audience reactions are kind of amusing. My husband and I were laughing at all the people in the audience trying to dance to the "music", but it was like being in a theater full of tone-deaf storks. Only one in a hundred came close to being able to dance. And they kept cheering loudly whenever a new colored light started flashing on that ugly mofo onstage.
I can't believe people would be so bored at a concert that different colored lights were the only things making them cheer.
Honestly, watching Battlefield Earth was slightly more entertaining than the Dave Matthews concert.
Hijack now over. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

"My biggest fear is Barry Manilow. I think he's the Antichrist."
Ozzy Osbourne,
Late Night with Conan O'Brien
Sorry, couldn't resist. I just about split a gut when Ozzy said that.
Barry's OK---used to listen to him WAY back in junior high...

Not so much into Barry Manilow. Like Neil Diamond a lot though. I've seen him twice, each time for free. I'd go without a second thought if I could get cheap tickets to another one of his shows.

BANDSTAND BOOGIE!!!
I like Barry Manilow a little. I don't have any of his older CDs yet (I have Summer of '78 only), but I'm getting Ultimate Manilow (20+ songs) Tuesday at KMart for $11.88 because it has the songs I do know and that's enough for me.

Anyone see the similarities between Barry Manilow and Martin Short?
