If there is only one reason to watch the AMA's tonight.

Sure, the return of Jenny McCarthy and her stint as cohost of the American Music Awards should be interesting enough, if not for what she does or say but for her interaction with fellow cohost P-Diddy.

But the real reason to watch is to see the band Carbon Leaf. They are from my hometown here in Richmond, VA and won the Coca Cola New Music Award that was cosponsored by CMJ and Dick Clark Productions. They were in competition with nearly 500 bands and spent a couple of months competing/touring. The winner gets to perform live tonight on the show.

This band is great and I encourage everyone to check them out.

What time are they on?

I'd rather eat nails than watch the AMAs. But, if there is a set time, I'll flip it over there if I can remember.

If only it was that easy. Not sure what time. Like you, I'd rather put a drill to my head then watch the AMA's. As it is a Dick Clark Production, we can expect a lot of lip-synched performances by talentless "artists". EXCEPT for Carbon Leaf.

I just read that they only have two minutes to perform, so the song they do, "The Boxer", will be greatly shortened.

I know Carbon Leaf and they are an awful, mediocre band that played all the frat parties in Williamsburg. Best of luck to them, but I'll never buy an album.

My friend's brother was their manager in Richmond, VA for 2 years. They're NOT awful, they're good. I realize that you have an opinion, and I'm really very happy for you.

If anyone wants to see for themselves, you can do so tonight. The song "The Boxer" is over 3 minutes long, and they had to cut it to 2 minutes for the show -- as it says in an email from their old manager, "it should be interesting to see how they pull it off."

I'm sorry if I seem too critical, it's not my intention. Maybe Carbon Leaf have gotten a lot better since I last saw them at the W&M frats a few years ago. I sincerely do wish them the best of luck. Maybe they can give Seven Mary Three a call about how to make it big.

Edit to add:

After listening to a couple clips, I don't think I was hard enough on them earlier. When did Ian Anderson join the band?

Welp, I tried. Didn't make it past the intro though. Snoop and the gang and their "music" pretty much got under my skin in a nano-second.

I'll never understand this infatuation with the Pepsi chick either... Like she's the only nice looking woman in the world? And for that, we should suffer through two hours of lousy pop drivel and teeny bopper giggles? Pass.

Carbon Leaf was the first and now the last of the non-signed acts to preform on the AMA's. If they were the winners of the contest, I'd hate to hear the losers.
