This album shows the potential that is still left in the standard rock & roll arangements of guitar/bass/drums. Paranoid Android is quite possibly the greatest song ever recorded.


4. Every Picture Tells A Story - Rod Stewart
This album has the 3 main ingredients of great rock & roll: heart, soul and balls. And all three are mixed and cooked to perfection here.


3. Who's Next - The Who
Songs that sound as urgent and relevant today as they did 30 years ago. This one's a very personal choice.


2. Physical Graphitti - Led Zeppelin
Pure, unadulterated power. This is the album that made me learn how to play the guitar because I NEEDED to play it for myself.

This, my friends, is the perfect rock & roll album. It doesn't TRY to be anything. Yet, that is it's beauty. I'm not even a big Stones fan. Difficult to get into at first, but once you do.....

C'mon, lets hear WHY these are our favorite albums.

Johnny Zhivago

1. (tie) The Beatles (The White Album) / Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles. Quite simply, The Beatles rule. The White Album because every track is flawless. Sgt. Peppers for blowing the doors open and changing what rock music could be. (Yes, you can argue Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys did much the same)

2. Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols - The Sex Pistols. Perfect album for a perfect time and still sounds just as good today.

3. (tie) Red - King Crimson. Fripp & co strip down prog rock to it's primal form and produce THE heavy prog rock album that has no peers. Simple and powerful. Disco Volante - Mr. Bungle. Creative does not even begin to do the Bungle boys justice. There's more ideas here on this one disc than there is in a decade of rock by 98% off all bands, combined.

4. Reign In Blood - Slayer. The very definition of modern heavy metal. The perfect marriage of hardcore punk and heavy metal. 1,000 mph, angry, obscene, nasty, painful and perfect.

5. Joe's Garage - Frank Zappa. Much like The Beatles, Frank was simply the man. No top 5 of mine can be complete without a Zappa recording so I'll pick Joe's Garage. With all due respect to the Grateful Dead, Zappa was the father of the jam band as we know it. His influence is only now being fully noticed and appreciated.

Reasons Why:

1. The ultimate head trip. The Beatles did something great with this album. Every song is cut exactly to par. Nothing is wrong with this album. Each Beatle had their time to shine on this album.

2. Bon Scott dead. Sad days. Brian Johnson comes in and blows us away. Great album from a band thought to have gone back down under.

3. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. This album has six songs....but they are six phenomenal songs, at that !!!

4. Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Bitch, Sister Morphine, Moonlight Mile, among other greats made this album one to get. This may not have been The Rolling Stones breakout album (IMO, Beggar's Banquet was their breakout album...IMO that is.), but this album gave them another hit and boy was it a big one.

5. What could words say about this kick ass album. Great in every way.

6. Fleetwood Mac is one of the best bands of the past 30-40 years. They were great and this album shows why.

Duane Allman and Dickey Betts guitar playing and improvosation transcends rock & roll and steps into the Miles/Coltrane areas of Jazz.
2. Derek & The Dominoes - Layla
Eric Clapton & Duane Allman push each other to the edge. One of the best guitar albums ever recorded.
3. The Beatles - Revolver
The transition album along with Rubber Soul that brought the Beatles from Pop culture icons to innovative introspective artists.
4. The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet
This album along with Let It Bleed took the Stones from Pop stars to Icons.
5. Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
The definitive Hendrix album. His playing and singing had reached new heights.

Music From Big Pink -- The music has so much depth and texture. The harmonies and layered instruments make for a great listen.

All Things Must Pass -- I could listen to this album non-stop for an entire day and not get tired of it. It's got a little bit of everything... and I even dig the Apple Jams. George broke out of the shadow of John and Paul in a big way.

Exile On Main Street -- This one took a few listens to really grow on me, but once I got into the groove, I couldn't turn it off.

Tumbleweed Connection -- Every song fits perfectly into the context of the album. Bernie's lyrics are great, and Elton's melodies compliment them flawlessly. A little bit country and a little bit rock and roll... classic Elton before he went "adult contemporary."

Abbey Road -- Mere words cannot descibe why this is the best album ever recorded.

I think these are all wonderful, wonderful albums. Big Pink would certainly place high on my list. And Tumbleweed Connection is one of two Elton albums I love. The other being Honky Chateau.

1)Master of Puppets\Metallica- This album changed the way I looked at music, isn't that what it's all about?
2)AEnema\Tool- Concept metal cannot be done any better than this epic
3)Trouble\Trouble- 1990 release that is everything Sabbath style music should be, if you can find this album, snatch it.
4)GNR\Appetite- Wonderful attitude and song structure, pinacle of 80's hard rock.
5)Beastie Boys\Pauls Boutique- Again, this is MY top 5, I put this disc in and let the good times roll, "time and money for girls covered in honey" Genius!
