How many of the 2001 top 100 CD's do you have

5, including "Double Wide" by Uncle Kracker, which I purchased the first week it was released in May 2000. It charted briefly and was gone within a few weeks. It didn't become a hit album until months and months later when radio stations picked up on what I thought was just filler, "Follow Me".
|
Wow... not one. And, it's not because I don't like the music. I see at least 10 albums I would have purchased a few years ago. However, I've pledged not to buy another album until the RIAA stops their alienating, controlling behavior.

Outkast–Stankonia |
Out of the 65+ albums I bought this year, 0 are in the Top 100. I don't think I've even heard any of the Top 100 albums, other than Outkast.
|
I have 21, but I find it interesting that most of them are in the bottom half of the list and aren't "big name" albums, like the Isley Brothers, Jill Scott, India.Arie, Lee Ann Womack, etc. I don't own a single CD in the Top 10, and only 3 in the top 25. (Janet, Alicia Keys and Destiny's Child).

I probably bought close to 40 CDs this year, and of this list, I have two. (O Brother soundtrack and Tool). You could theoretically count a third, the Beatles "1," because I don't own it because I do own every other Beatles CD. I won't belabor the notion about the discrepancy between my tastes and "the popular" ones because I've long since given up on it all... ...Sigh... ;)
|
None from the top 10 here either, and I bought at least 40 cds this year.
From the list I have 6 14 LOVERS ROCK Sade 17 NO ANGEL Dido 26 ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND U2 49 MUSIC Madonna 50 MOULIN ROUGE Soundtrack 67 WHITE LADDER David Gray |
None.
Though I'm not exactly anti-establishment, looking through that list of trash (my opinion! no flames please!) - I'm quite pleased that I don't own any of it. ;) -matt |
5... I'm not really into mainstream music.

Thirteen:
The Beatles - 1 Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory Dido - No Angel Dave Matthews Band - Everyday 3 Doors Down - The Better Life Matchbox 20 - Mad Season Tool - Lateralus Blink-182 - Take off Your Pants & Jacket Fuel - Something like Human Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler Weezer - Weezer Incubus - Make Yourself The Offspring - Conspiracy of One |

woo hoo, I have 2 (U2 & Tool). 95% of what's left I don't give a flying f**k about. And the record industry wonders why sales are in the tank :p |
I didn't expect to find one, but there are 4 I have. Dido, U2, Sade, Enya.
I bought a lot more that probably didn't even make the Top 500. |
After a quick count, I think I have 10. I forgot about the O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack, then remembered I got it as a gift a while back and just haven't listened to it yet.

Originally posted by Precious I'm wondering about the Now CD's we're upto Now 50 over here. Do the now 5,6 &7 have 2001 tracks on them or are they the versions which we have in the UK? Comparing the domestic one to the UK ones in the import sections, only about 2-3 tracks (of 18) match up since yours reflect current UK chart hits and ours is the US chart. Simply put, completely different for all intents and purposes. |
I have 2
IMO the best album this year was Horror Show by Iced Earth, probably not even in the top 1000 on Billboard though. |
I have:
The Beatles - 1 Backstreet Boys - Black & Blue Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish... Linkin Park - [Hybrid theory] Staind - Break the Cycle N Sync - Celebrity Nelly - Country Grammar Creed - Human Clay Destiny's Child - Survivor Alicia Keys - Songs in a Minor Dido - No Angel Outkast - Stankonia Jennifer Lopez - Jlo O Brother Where Art Thou? U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind Ja Rule - rule 3:36 Britney Spears - Oops I did it again! Especially since most of my fave albums aren't even on here... I like all types of music...very diverse... MATT |
(Just two?)
The Beatles - 1
Lenny Kravitz - GREATEST HITS |
I buy so many CD's it's scary, but can only get to 15 here, and even that includes 4 from my fiancee's collection that I wouldn't have otherwise purchased. I did much, much better with the Q magazine list also being batted around this board...
Bottom line: most music being heavily hyped these days isn't that good - even Billboard's editor said recently that all that's out there is teen pop, nu-metal, Nashville country, and samey sounding rap - to stay in business long-term, they are going to have to provide more intelligent alternatives here and there... though there are plenty of those available on indie and import labels everywhere these days (White Stripes, Ron Sexsmith, Avalanches, Theivery Corporation, Ed Harcourt, Wilco, Chamber Strings, and on and on and on...) |
Only 2. Creed - Human Clay and U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind
