No particular order (and sorry it's more than 10)
The Beatles
The Who
The Clash
The Monkees (when they did indeed play their own music, but I like the music that isn't "played" by them as well)
Led Zeppelin
The Beach Boys (only up to the late seventies)
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Elvis Costello and the Attractions
ABBA
Squeeze
The Cure
Bob Marley and the Wailers
The Band (as "The Band" and also as "The Hawks" w/Dylan)
The Byrds
The Velvet Underground
David Bowie (and the Spiders from Mars)
Chicago
The Jimi Hendrix Experience

I like these sort of topics. I gave this a bit of thought, and here's my list:
1. Fushitsusha
2. The Boredoms
3. Sun Ra & His Arkestra
4. The Ruins
5. Tyrannosaurus Rex
6. Nagisa Ni Te
7. The Beach Boys
8. ABBA
9. The Replacements
10. Angel 'In Heavy Syrup
Positions 1. through 4. have been pretty much constant for a decade. The 5. through 10. spots are usually in flux, and there are a few bands that would be on this list if I hadn't come to be disenchanted with the directiond they ended up taking: Guided By Voices, The Residents, and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci to name three.

Welcome, Luther Heggs. You heard DMBQ? It's balls-out Japanese rock from members of Ruins and Boredoms. Seems like something you might like. I like yr list.

Yeah DMBQ got the rock. I've only found one CD of theirs; the self-titled one on the Less Than TV label. Any idea where I can find some of their newer stuff?
And speaking of balls-out rock, I should have had High Rise on my list, too. Maybe they should have been at #10. Can't make a list without second-guessing.

Forced Exposure, Insound, Wayside Music, Other Music, Eclipse Records, and YOD don't have anything. I even tried 'Dynamite Masters Blues Quartet' without getting any hits. Their website gives album titles and tracklists but doesn't seem to point in helpful directions, either. However, Amazon and GEMM do have Jinni and the re-mix album, but be prepared to pay the steep $40 import fee.

Coldplay
U2
Pearl Jam
Sloan
The Beatles
Oasis
Left off 'artists' like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash etc. because they are not 'a band'.

Aerosmith- Spawn of the Rolling Stones - not the latest stuff but the early stuff still gets me.
The Ramones- Punk NYC style - and you will never forget it
Iron Maiden - Heavy Metal - but still have a huge following for a good reason.
The Who - Awesome songs that sound fantastic today as they did 30+ years ago.
The Replacements- Punk/Pop that kept me in check during a bad music period.
Van Halen (DLR) - Was my first live concert and still one of the best front men and lead guitarist live. Ah .... it was my first concert HEHE.
ETC... Bowie, Police, U2, Beach Boys, Ozzy/Sabbath, Santana, Clash, Roxy Music. etc. etc.

Hell, I'll play, since I don't believe I did the first time around. I like so many bands, that I usually can't narrow it down to such a small number - and the list cold change daily, weekly, etc.. But for now, it would be...
Cheap Trick
KISS
Alice Cooper
Thin Lizzy
INXS
The Replacements
The Beatles
The Beach Boys
The Monkees
Nada Surf
...and I could just as easily add/change/replace...Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, U2, Jimmy Eat World, U2, The Alarm, The Cult, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, The Cars, REM, Ivy, Sloan, Third Eye Blind, Semisonic, AC/DC, UFO, Radiohead, Matthew Sweet, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Jeff Buckley... etc..etc...

No order (except first 3):
Type O Negative
Danzig
Alice Cooper
Opeth
Slayer
Metallica
Megadeth
KISS
Mastodon
Ulver
I could swap a few out on any given day, but these have either been my favorites for years, or they're awesome bands that blew my mind in more recent years.

These are my favorite bands, not the best bands. So there are bands that are better (undoubtedly) but I just don't happen to listen to them. Using Last.FM as a guide, here are my top ten:
Coldplay
Electrelane
Radiohead
Maxïmo Park
Placebo
Amadou & Mariam
The Beatles
The Doors
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Nirvana
I'd include Wu-Tang Clan but they're not really a "band" are they? And I'd add Vampire Weekend but they only have one album so far.
