Recommend some happy music!

Howdy, all! This is my first thread in Music Talk, so be kind. I'm just wondering what songs you use to put you in a happy mood. I've been listening to a lot of slow, sad stuff recently, and it's been putting me into a funk. I need some stuff that will keep me smiling! (especially with my exam coming up on Wednesday) So, lemme know your fave "happy songs!"

Fire bad!

Here's a whole album:

Dig That Groove, Baby - The Toy Dolls

Olga (lead singer) sounds a bit like Daffy Duck on speed, and their music can only be described as Happy Punk. Songs include Nellie the Elephant, Spiders in the Dressing Room, and a very very fast version of Blue Suede Shoes.

One of my favorite bands: Hooverphonic - very uplifting music!

Well, Benedict got it first....

But if I NEEDED to be 'uplifted' and not brood, I'd pop in Best of Beach Boys Vol. 1 with a burnt 'extra' tracks of "Do It Again" and "Little Honda".

Also , Brian Wilson-Live At The Roxy...."This Whole World"....

Christ, ALL of it.

Anyone who can listen to Fun,Fun,Fun, Little Deuce Coupe, Good Vibes, and Surfing USA and STILL be mordent should go ahead and grab the shotgun.

Wierd Al, an odd choice..but how more uplifting can one get than parody?

Any They Might Be Giants CD- but special mention to their album "Flood". You'll be surprised how happy a song called 'Dead' or 'Your Racist Friend' can sound. Not to mention the classics 'Particle Man' and 'Istanbul (Not Constantinople)'.

A lot of Bob Marley songs are happy. Listen to "Three Little Birds" for example.

Three little birds outside my doorstep
Singing sweet songs...

Much better than Don't Worry Be Happy.

I have to mention a somewhat obscure tune that always brings a smile to my face: Make a Circuit With Me by the Polecats.

Also:

Ca Plane Pour Moi (This is the Life For Me) - Plastic Bertrand
Santiago - Loreena McKennitt

The correct answer: Jonathan Richman
Get yourself some "Abominable Snowman in the Market", maybe "Roadrunner" or "Dodge Veg-O-Matic", "Party in the Woods", "Rollercoaster by the Sea"... and you've got a good time.

Beatles can make almost anything better.

Boredoms
Cibo Matto
Halo Benders - "Don't Touch My Bikini" " Canned Oxygen"
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Parliament

How happy do you want to be? Do you want poppy mindless fun or just loud rockin' & good? Some things can be so bright & cheery that they make you sick.

Here's a weird one: Bob Dylan's Love & Theft album - especially the song "Lonesome Day Blues." This song makes me much happier than it should. It's got a very "Rainy Day Women" sound to it & the vocals are amazing. I laugh everytime I play.

Creation's "Making Time" has been making me feel good lately. I'd never heard it til I saw Rushmore.

The Legendary Stardust Cowboy's "Standing in a Trashcan (Thinking About You)" - 'nuff said

Captain Beefheart - "Run Paint Run Run"

Roxy Music - "Virginia Plain"

certain Frank Zappa songs (maybe "Baby Snakes", "Jelly Roll Gum Drop")

certain Tom Waits songs (maybe "Goin' Out West")

Keith Richards & X-Pensive Winos

Talking Heads

You know that Dear Mr. Jesus song? That makes me sad. Country music does not make me sad. I like the guys voice from Five for Fighting, so no, that does not make me sad either.

Agree, ANYTHING by the B-52's. Or even the Go-Go's (saw where someone mentioned one of their singles). Also, the British band the Lightning Seeds. Pure pop! Then there's No Doubt and Blur.

As brilliant as I think she is, if you're NOT happy and you know...stay the hell away from Aimee Mann. Whatever you do!
