The Avalanches

Has anyone heard of these guys, I was watching 120 minutes on Wed Night, and saw the video for Frontier Psychiatrist and I was blown away, blown away I tell ya. I trekked to Virgin last night and they did not have the cd, so I guess I'll be ordering off Amazon..

the cd is all samples cobbled together, and I think they are from Oz.

Pikul has been preaching the joys of the Avalanches for a year now. The album, Since I Left You, is indeed amazing. Pick it up. I think the domestic version just became available in October. I've had it since January and still listen to it regularly. Check the All Music Guide for Pikul's excellent review.

They thought the album might not come in the US (in complete form) since they thought they might have music rights problems with the Madonna sample, yet its still intact for the US edition.

Here in DC The Avalanches are doing a DJ set at Club 5 on the 28th of November. From what I have read on the internet the live shows wont happen till early Spring of next year.

The second song has the bassline from "Holiday."

Re: The Avalanches

I've been burned too many times Mr. Bus, I'll wait till I have the CD in my stereo and playing before I believe a word of it.

I'll be glad to be wrong though, when it comes to a second album by The Avalanches.

Re: The Avalanches

A label person who knew them told me they were working on it in 2012.

As long as the album comes out, I'm OK.

Slim chance this lives up to the wait.

Re: The Avalanches

I'll give a listen, but I have a hard time expecting much from a band who can't get an album together for 15 years.

Re: The Avalanches

I've listened twice and.... it's not bad.

It's not a pieced together gathering of samples, but the pedigree is unmistakably The Avalanches. It even sneaks a totally unexpected sample from a classic musical.

I'm definitely ready to hear more.

Re: The Avalanches

Yeah. and man my first post is very dated 2001! ! ! !

120 Minutes fuck!

I like the rhyming in it and the track, but don't love the frank sinatra verse

Re: The Avalanches

Interesting to see Danny Brown and DOOM on “Frank Sinatra”... Not sure why that's the lead single, maybe it's trying to capture the magic of “Frontier Psychiatrist”?

Re: The Avalanches

[1 year bump]

I recently found out about the new (well, 2016) album "Wildflower" by the Avalanches and I'm hooked. Their music videos are great too.

The animated music video for the song "Subways"

The music video for the song "Because I'm Me"

cc

I missed them entirely when their previous album came out way back in 2000 but may end up seeking it out too.

yep, good group
I prefer "Wildflower" to "Since I Left You" as a whole but take the best of both and put them together for a great record

fans should be happy to know they may not need to wait 16 years between releases
