From Century Media Newsletter
Century Media Germany is planning a very special release for Iced Earth fans: Dark Genesis, a 5-cd box set, will include a 32-page hardcover book in a deluxe slipcase, re-mixed & digitally re-mastered versions of the first three studio albums (Iced Earth, Night Of The Stormrider and Burnt Offerings), the Enter The Realm demo recordings that lead to ICED EARTH's record deal with Century Media (track listing below), and cover versions of the band's favorite songs on Tribute To The Gods. While it's slated for European-only release, three thousand box sets will be available through Century Media's Mail-Order for North America come December, 2001. Tribute To The Gods will be released separately worldwide in Spring, 2002.
Enter The Realm tracklisting:
Enter The Realm, Colors, Nightmares, Curse The Sky, Solitude, Iced Earth.
Tribute To The Gods tracklisting:
Creatures Of The Night (KISS), Number Of The Beast (Iron Maiden), Highway To Hell (AC/DC), Burnin' For You (Blue Oyster Cult), God Of Thunder (KISS), Screaming For Vengeance (Judas Priest), Dead Babies (Alice Cooper), Cities On Flame (Blue Öyster Cult), Long Way To The Top (AC/DC), Black Sabbath (Black Sabbath), and Hallowed Be Thy Name (Iron Maiden).

Iced Earth is VERY cool, and I love their latest album, Horror Show, but I don't know if I would spring for a box set. Depends on the price.
I'm looking to complete my Iced Earth collection, so a box set (for me) may be redundant (except for the covers album, which will come out individually next year anyway).
But for someone who has just heard a few songs and is impressed the box set could be a great way to go.
Then again, I may go for it since these are the re-mixed versions of those early CDs (and from all that I've heard the remixes sound a lot better).
It does look like a very cool set.

Actually, not only did they remix those early albums, but (if I remember right - a dubious prospect) I think that Matthew Barlow re-recorded the vocals as well.
You may want to check their website to see if there is any information about that. I can't remember if that was mentioned on the interview disc with Horror Show, or if I read it somewhere.
I may just get this set (if the price isn't outrageous).

As for the price, the German site I snagged the cover from has it for 80 Deutschmarks, which is roughly $37; in other words, a steal.

Nothing was re-recorded, neither vocals nor instruments. If you're interested in hearing the old stuff with Matt singing, check out the album "Days of Purgatory".
