What is/are your pick(s) for Song Of The Year?

I don't really think there can be a consensus for this. Thinking about all the songs of the past year and one that I know almost everyone I knew liked, I'd say Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment.

"Clint Eastwood" by the Gorillaz is climbing up on my conscience, though.

It should be "We Don't Mind" by spearhead...but it won't be.

Too early to say yet. So far my faves would probably be "The Space Between"- DMB; "Prison Song" and "Chop Suey"- System of a Down (whole CD is great, but those are my two faves); and "Forever May Not Be Long Enough"- Live.

Edit to add: "I Might Be Wrong" and "Knives Out" by Radiohead. Not sure how I forgot them. ;)

I love this song. A true '2001 Song of The Year' would have to be more mainstram though. But a DVDtalk one (through a poll)wouldn't have to be...Hmm would be kind of interesting to see what the most popular song here would be ...

All opinions are not equal. There is such a thing as bad music and I see some of it listed in this thread.

I forgot that we have to tiptoe around and accept everyone's opinions as valid. I mean, after all what do people who devote their lives to studying music theory and criticism know? Their opinions are only equal to the average clown who listens to mainstream radio and knows of no other artists outside of TRL.

I don't care about the opinions of people who study music theory. I know they are going to like different music than someone like me that has no musical abilitiy whatsover. I just listen to what sounds good to me. And in my mind that's all that matters. Like the only thing that matters about movies is that they entertain you in some way, be it funny, exciting, thought provoking whatever. Anyway, it looks like this forum will suffer the same kind of snobish attitudes as the movie forums.

You are Unbelievable, you know that. What is it with you and this dictator attitude you have in this forum? Telling people that their opinion is not valid unless it agrees with your damn opinion? Give me a break! If someone wants to listen to "TRL" type of music, that is their damn choice and they have every right to have their opinion on that music. Maybe it is hard for you to believe but not everyone wants to devote all of their life studying music and movies. You also sure are balsy to crap in this thred making fun of peoples choices of music, yet fail to show what kind of wonderful music you like.

nowhere once did I say that MY choices were superior to anyone elses or that their choices had to be identical to mine. So what I listen to doesn't matter. But I can admit that my collection is sorely lacking of many important works.

like it or not, music and film are art. they should be challenging. And anyone who just listens to music for fun or escapism doesn't understand the point of art. they shouldn't be expected to be taken seriously when they discuss these things.

I'm tired of this de-intellectualization of society. Everything is dumbed down to the lowest denominator, and I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same way. If you don't want to be challenged [not you specifically, but the collective 'you'], then you're either too stupid or you're too lazy.
