NIN finally on DVD!

From DVDFile:

"...at long last, Trimark is releasing Nine Inch Nails: Closure, on 11/16 with a $29.95 price tag."

Awesome news! I'm a huge NIN fan and can't wait to finally have the opportunity to purchase this. I've never seen this particular program but I have seen them twice live and love their music videos.

Here's the info from the '97 video. 11 Live tracks and 13 other "videos". I assume that at least all of this content will make it onto the DVD with stereo sound. Given other music releases... I suspect we'll also see 5.1 sound mixes on some of the content and perhaps some DVD style extras.

halo 12: closure [video, 1997]
part one: (live)
terrible lie
piggy
down in it
march of the pigs
the only time
sanctified
wish
hurt with david bowie
eraser
a warm place
something i can never have

part two:
head like a hole (directed by h-gun / eric zimmerman and ben stokes)
sin (directed by brett turnball)
down in it (directed by h-gun / eric zimmerman and ben stokes)
pinion (directed by eric and serge)
wish (directed by peter christopherson)
help me i'm in hell (directed by eric and serge)
happiness in slavery (directed by jonathan reiss)
gave up (directed by jonathan reiss)
march of the pigs (directed by peter christopherson)
erasure (live)
wish (live)
the perfect drug (directed by mark romanek)
closer (directed by mark romanek)

This is great news. But what about the other NIN DVD? From the Fragility 2.0 tour?

Woot woot!!

Too bad my interest in NIN has dwindled to the point of me only wanting this to fit in my collection.

I've owned the vhs since it's release. 2 tapes, 1 w/videos, 1 live. The videos are unedited, with new stuff added for this(vhs) release, some pretty gruesome. The "gave up" video seems live in studio(definately a different mix than on broken) w/ marilyn manson. The live tape plays more like a documentary than a concert, but the music is still plentiful. A nice package. "perfect drug" was nin's most recent video when the vhs was released. Maybe the videos since then will be included on the dvd?

Hmmm.... I had heard that the DVD was going to exploit the medium, rather than being a port of the VHS stuff.... I remember a Trent interview where he was gushing about the mad ways in which they'd use the sound channels and whatnot.... I'll be let down if the DVD has nothing to do with The Fragile. That album is awesome, IMO.

This DVD, Closure, is simply a reissue of the video released by NIN in late 1997, which had most of their music videos (61 min.) up to The Perfect Drug and concert footage (74 min.) from their tours in 1995. Total running time: 135 min.

There is still another NIN DVD yet to come, featuring the Fragility tour from 2000. The Fragility DVD is still in production, and probably won't come out until early next year. All the footage for the tour was shot on DVCAM, so it should be 16x9 enhanced, and they also indicated that it would have 5.1 surround!

I've been informed by Trimark that the only addition to the DVD version of "Closure" is the new Dolby Digital 5.1 mix.

I did ask why the video for "Burn" wasn't added into the set, but I haven't heard back from them.

"Burn" will not be on the DVD release due to licensing reasons. It was only licensed for the VHS and laserdisc releases of the "Natural Born Killers" SE.

Oh well.

I could never figure out why they didn't include burn on Closure, it has puzzled me for years. I don't think it was due to legal issues due to footage 'cause if I remember correctly it didn't contain any clips from the movie (natural bork killers), umm... maybe some dialog, but I really can't remember Wasn't it supposed to be on the director's cut dvd of natural born killers?

Neutron,

I got my information from the Director of Worldwide DVD Operations for Lion's Gate Entertainment (who distribute Trimark titles), so I believe his explanation that it was a rights issue.

And the video does contain many flashes of Robert Downey Jr. and Tommy Lee Jones from the film "Natural Born Killers".

I think it was always because of rights issues that it wasn't included. It was the only NIN video at the time that wasn't included on Closure.

Burn was on the NBK Director's Cut VHS and Laserdisc, but when it got ported over to DVD, apparently they no longer had the rights too, because that is the only supplement that didn't make it to the DVD.

One of my favorite NIN tracks is 'Dead Souls' from the Crow soundtrack. I guess they never made a video for it? Darn.

Delayed! (Cancelled?)

From DVDFile:
In other NIN news, we received word from Trimark that the NIN Closure DVD, originally scheduled for 12/4, has been indefinitely postponed pending artist involvement. Stay tuned...
And from http://www.nineinchnails.net/news/oct01/100301-01.asp

What did you expect? Assembled with no rights to the copyrighted material, Trimark pressed the self-destruction documentary by Nine Inch Nails in DVD format with no artist involvement. Is this a normal routine for such a respected distributor you ask, who knows, but the DVD has been delayed with no sign of a release anytime soon.

I see it as good news. At least Trent will work on it personally. Maybe make the 5.1 mixes the way he wanted them?
