Roger Corman Centennial

Legendary producer/director/distributor (and sometime actor) Roger Corman would have turned 100 today, April 5, 2026.
He died only two years ago, on May 9, 2024, at the age of 98.

I grew up on his films on TV and in theaters. He left American International Pictures in 1970 to start his own company, New World Pictures, which had a successful run with dozens of exploitation films released to drive-ins and grindhouses. He then sold New World and started a new home video company, Concorde/New Horizons. It was never the same after that, although he kept churning them out.

I did a centennial tribute to him on my blog:

And two years ago I did a memorial tribute to him:

On Friday night, TCM ran a documentary on him made in France in 2021, in which he's interviewed along with his wife/co-producer Julie Corman and such illustrious graduates of the Corman factory as Peter Bogdanovich, Ron Howard, Joe Dante and Allan Arkush.

It's on YouTube. Beware of the incredibly low audio (at least on my computer). It sounded fine on TCM.

Maybe the most talented person ever in the movie business when it came to discovering great talent.

Coincidentally, I covered Star Crash on my TikTok a couple days before his 100th. If I would have known, I would have been sure to mention it.
