Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. Nora turns it down, but soon discovers he's given the part to an eager young Hollywood star.
Winner of the Grand Prix award at Cannes.
You'll likely see this mentioned during the awards season and it's with reason. This was a very good family drama with really great acting from the entire cast. The director's previous movie, The Worst Person in the World, was also well received but that one didn't click with me. This one definitely clicked. I can see a supporting nom for Skarsgard for sure. Throw in original screenplay, international, and even best picture.

Yeah, I really liked this one, could be my favorite this year. The relationships and dialog between all of the characters were wonderful, Father/daughter, between the two daughters, director/actress, and director/cinematographer.

I liked it a lot too. The acting was great. Loved Stellan. Surprisingly touching. Really affected me.
Great Netflix joke in it too

Would love to see Stellan get Best Supporting Actor win. He’s sure to get a nod. Elle Fanning is great too, she’s having an excellent year.

This was fucking great. How often do we get a good adult drama? Rarely.
writing and directing and cinematography and performances were all on point. It was surprising in parts and I think JT really stuck the landing as well.
Oh, I think it's easily one of the best movies of the year.

This movie was superb. Hands down the best of 2025 (IMO). The direction, screenplay, and cinematography were all amazing. And every performance is worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Catching up on Academy Award nominees and watched this tonight. Like others have said one of the best of the year easily. Most of the talk has been about Skarsgard's performance but Renate Reinsve was the real revelation for me. An Oscar worthy performance for sure.

If you haven't already, check her out in The Worst Person in the World - also by the same director.Originally Posted by The Questyen

Watched it last night and the performances are what stood out to me. Reinsve and Skarsgard were great and I really liked Fanning in this as well.
I did gasp a bit when Gustav gave his grandson the DVDs for his birthday and Irreversible was on top of the pile.

I agree about the other performances, but the one I thought really should have won on Oscar night was Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
