Didn't realize I had this line in the sand, but I'm not going to watch a movie with Kevin O'Leary in it. Shameful.

Seriously. I was super annoyed when I saw him. Also, for some reason I thought this movie was about a chess guy, not a ping pong guy. I don't know why that has been in my head.

That looks decent but yeah, Kevin O’Leary is a c*nt.

Yeah, fuck O'Leary. I can see why only one of the Safdie's is involved in this. Unless I missed something.

O’Leary is nauseating stunt casting. The only thing worse will be if he somehow gives a noteworthy performance or (gawd forbid) earns awards chatter – which he would opportunistically lean into more than any actual actor – and then we’ll be subjected to all sorts of “Well, I separate the man from the art” commentary.

A24 sent out a free ticket to see this for members. It opens Christmas Day. I’ve missed the last few A24 movies that got free tickets, so I’ll try to see this one. Booked a ticket on the 26th.

I liked this but it did feel a tad too long but I was still super engaged though. Tim nails this role but I think Leo is gonna get it. By now you should know how a Safdie movie is gonna be, cause this fits right along with Good Time and Uncut Gems even though this one is Josh going solo. I think the pace was much more frantic and unrelenting in Uncut and this starts to get stuff going but then slows. I really don't see this winning anything actually but that's ok, it's still a very fine movie.

I really liked it. Starts out like an underdog sports film, then shifts to a reasonable facsimile of Uncut Gems. Pretty wild ride. Timmy was really great. I was super impressed. Way more Kevin O'Leary than I expected - he did very well for a non-actor, but still it's was a weird choice, and he might have had the second-most lines in the film.
Was cool seeing my old acquaintance Penn Jillett in a small but pivotal part. He's the nicest guy you'll ever meet, but he's so physically imposing, I can see him being pretty scary with a shotgun in hand.

Talk about a ping-pong match . . .
Never heard of it -- I'm out.
Saw the trailer, WTF? -- I'm in.
Gwyneth Paltrow -- I'm out.
Timothy Chalamet -- I'm in.
Safdie -- I'm out.
That trailer -- I'm in.
Kevin O'Leary -- fuck that fucking twat, I'm not supporting that shit -- I am out for good.
Penn Jillette?! --

Not much else playing over the winter break. If I get a chance to go to the theater, I'll probably end up seeing this.

I can’t stand Adam Sandler, so I was out on Uncut Gems. It was a biased line for the joke. I always push back on “the next big thing” that has a limited track record.

This year's Anora. One of the best films of the year (in my opinion). For me its down to this or One Battle After Another. Recency bias has me giving this one the edge, though.

I only have a passing interest in this movie. I'll wait for streaming. Apparently this one guy I follow on Tiktok is a popular streamer from NYC. He's also a model and photographer. He has a bit part as a table tennis background player. He posted photos attending the premier and a video of doing trick serves.

Hate comparing films but this was way more compelling to me. Safdie's nervous energy and chaos is just gripping. Feels like he could endlessly crank out movies with this same vibe.

I hate Adam Sandler. I hated his schtick on SNL, and I tried to watch his "classics" like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison and hated those too. Uncut Gems was my favorite movie of that year, and I think Sandler should have gotten an Oscar for it.
As for Marty Supreme, it was good, and I like the manic, anxious, desperate energy, like in Good Time and Uncut Gems, which was missing from Smashing Machine. But, I also wanted something a little different from those two films, and I think this tried to do it, which was good. But overall, I still think Uncut Gems is the best. For me, I think the problem was Timothee. I generally like him, and on paper, he seems like a good fit for this movie, but for whatever reason, it didn't work as well for me as Pattinson and Sandler did for their films.

The drama Adam Sandler is totally different. Uncut Gems, Punch-Drunk Love, Hustle, Reign Over Me, The Meyerowitz Stories and Funny People are totally different. I don't like all of those movies, but Uncut Gems is fantastic. Good Time is also a pretty good time, so I'm looking forward to Marty Supreme.

I got a lot of that this year in If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You, and I gotta say, I don't like it. I respect that movie because it's well-made, but I don't really want to watch movies that make me feel like when I'm having an anxiety attack

All I will say is that although there is some anxiety, it's nothing as intense as Uncut Gems (that one wrecked me). This film is consistently funny beginning to end.

I just got back from seeing this movie with a very large crowd (compared to a mostly empty Anaconda yesterday). Loved the first half of the movie, his cockiness and the subtle comedy going along with it. At that point, the movie began I guess what people in this thread are calling manic as he gets more and more desperate and so much happens to him in a rapid sequence before settling down for a satisfying ending. He leaves so much destruction in his path, I have to wonder what he ends up taking responsibility for. But overall a very good (if a little long) movie.
