been a distraction and taken away from the demon theme.
Probably better they didn't try to do both in the limited time for the movie.

I wouldn't be surprised if they also wind up performing on the DWTS finale two days earlier...

for the fourth week in a row. Some new mixes were released
last week, so that'll last a bit longer...
Golden is #2 again but has moved back to #1 on Spotify.
Fallon performance now at 32M views after one month.
Other Fallon videos with 30M views took at least 6 years to get there...

TONS of KDH costumes in my neighborhood on Halloween. Definitely most popular with under-10 girls. I don't have kids, so I didn't know if adolescents were also into the movie. Maybe they are, but it's just more embarrassing to wear it around. Our neighborhood has a major Korean population as well, so I'm sure that didn't hurt.
Two houses also went with the movie for their theme this year, including one of the "cool houses" that always has the most decorations on its block.

You know you wanted to hear a classical string quartet play Golden
Wouldn't be surprised to have an orchestra version of Golden during
the Oscars performance, hopefully without the backing vocals,
so we can hear the other two sing...

Huntr/x will return to the screen… but the girl group’s reunion tour might take a while.
Netflix and Sony have finalized a deal for another “KPop Demon Hunters” movie, with plans to release the animated musical sequel in 2029, as first reported by Bloomberg. Animated films can take a long time to make, hence the potential four-year gap between installments. Of course, release date plans could change depending on the film’s production schedule.
KPop Demon Hunters co-director Maggie Kang, who helmed the film with Chris Appelhans, has long expressed her desire for a sequel.
“We’ve set up so much for potential backstory,” Kang told Variety in July. “Obviously, there’s a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored. We had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes.”

2029 is a really long time and some young kids might age out by then. But this isn’t South Park, these kind of movies take time. Plus EJAE and her producers will need time to compose new songs.

Figured it would be a ways off even when they did officially announce something. Considering that it ‘hit’ with all ages and not just kids, though, I doubt much of the audience will be lost to aging out. And even then, if it truly has legs, a whole new cohort will be aging in to it that wasn’t old enough yet to fully appreciate the first one but will at least be aware of it.
I’m curious how they’ll sustain interest between now and then with a handful of songs that will inevitably fade (or maybe even become tiresome to some folks, the way ‘Let It Go’ did), and the patchy merch situation. Hopefully they’ll maintain a suitable level of awareness without it becoming old hat, while also letting the three singers grow their solo careers without constantly having to regroup to perform the songs. Shouldn’t be too hard to do these days, but there can be a fine line.
(On a wishlist note, it might be cool if they could round up a few more Korean-American ‘names’ to lend their voices. And maybe even some Korean-Canadian ones in keeping with the director’s background, cough-SandraOh-cough.
)
True enough. I’d imagine EJAE still has a lot of great songwriting years ahead of her, so presumably she’ll be able to equal her work on the first movie, and hopefully the production will have an increased budget (not that the first one was cheap by a long shot) that will allow them to rope in more heavy production hitters from the K-pop machine, along with some ‘name’ acts to add to the soundtrack(s).

Grammy nominations for Golden:
Song Of The Year
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
Best Song Written For Visual Media
KPDH also for Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media
That's not the only song by a Korean artist in the mix this year:
APT. is nominated for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year
and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
While having both songs nominated is nice, that likely is going
to split the vote, hurting both songs chances at winning...

I’ve noticed on TikTok a lot of bootleg K-pop Demon Hunter toys being for sale on their shop.

They're not REALLY holding their weapons though. The hands are open and some of the pictures look doctored, while in others you can see the ugly "doll clips" they use to simulate dolls holding stuff. I doubt they even stand on their own. It's par for the course for collectors barbie like stuff.

Re: KPop Demon Hunters (Netflix/Sony) -- 6/20/2025
Also agree that the pics look a bit wonky or doctored, or might simply be renderings for now. Perhaps that’s all they’ve got this early on.
While figurines and action figures aren’t my thing anyway, that year-long timeline is apparently fine for the mostly adult collectors who will pony up for these things and eventually stick them on a shelf, but it seems unfortunate they didn’t first think of all the young kids who would absolutely jump at more affordable versions that they can actually, you know, play with!
Everything has to be “premium” these days. Sigh. Even our movie collecting hobby isn’t immune to it, really.Of course, as DJariya noted the black market has already taken care of a lot of things, as it has all along with this movie (Etsy also has a lot of merch now, some of it really dodgy, others quite decent). I’m sure the ‘fast’ design/manufacture quality won’t be up to the standards of even a ‘regular retail’ line that Mattel might offer, ohh, several years from now, but for a lot of kids around the world it’ll get the job done for a fraction of even that price.

This is for sure to lock in the collector's dollars and there will be much cheaper "regular" barbies for these on store shelves, just probably not by Xmas. There's no way this is their only (or even first to come out) offering.

Re: KPop Demon Hunters (Netflix/Sony) -- 6/20/2025
Mattel Creations does do a lot of premium stuff for which there aren’t ‘standard’ versions, though. I likewise have no doubt we’ll see cheaper retail offerings of some sort . . . eventually, maybe even by surprise, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they appeared after these fancy ones, or were held back until closer to the sequel actually being physically in production.Speaking of Barbies proper, considering the staggering number of deluxe Barbies that Mattel Creations has put out over the last few years and months (<worth scrolling) – in pretty much all ethnicities and with many pop-culture/celeb tie-ins – I’d be surprised if they weren’t working on a limited edition KPDH version of their Asian Barbie. The foundational doll already exists, so it’s just a matter of ‘makeup’, a costume and accessories, and of course a hefty price tag.
