Re: 2024 Awards Season Thread

Yeah, while Madison strung together a few victories at some other awards ceremonies, I still thought Moore had the best chance, and yes even more so now. That said, can it be a big surprise that the SAG awards, that's the Screen ACTOR'S Guild, would honor a performance about something that pretty much every actor or actress (especially actress) starts to go through as they get older but still want to continue in the biz?? But it's that same reason I think the Academy (which is still mostly actors too) will give the statue to Demi as well.

Is Conclave suddenly a favorite for BP now? I thought it was between The Brutalist and Anora, but now I'm not so sure.

Re: 2024 Awards Season Thread

The Best Picture is going to be an uninspired and unexciting pick no matter what it is, none of the frontrunners really ring true as winners imo. But it's been like that for half of the last decade, so here we are. The actress category is one of the weakest in memory and it looks like it's going to be a career award.(not unprecedented for Oscars) But I am hoping for a surprise in the actor (Timmy C!) and supporting categories at least.

I only watched the 2nd half of the SAGs because I forgot it was on Netflix but glad to see some surprised winners and reinforced Demi's upcoming Oscar win.

In this case the title ensemble is very fitting. The Substance doesn't have much of an ensemble and while Anora has one some of the actors aren't that good. Conclave has a world class ensemble and they are did a very good job. It doesn't automatically make Conclave the best movie, although to me it is, but it's certainly the best cast.

What about The Brutalist? (and that's a real question, I haven't seen it, don't even know much about it...is it a one or two person driven movie like The Substance, or is it more of an ensemble?)

Brutalist is a fantastic acting ensemble. The only movie this year to earn 3 acting nominations besides A Complete Unknown.

Re: 2024 Awards Season Thread

I just saw that Nikki Glaser is going to host the 2026 Golden Globes in January.

Maybe we need a 2025-2026 thread?
