Primal Fear, American History X (Guess a 1999 movie counts since it was in contention in 2000), Birdman, and A Complete Unknown. |

Re: 2025 Academy Awards
My guess for Best Actress is that Moore has the momentum going into this weekend with the SAG award, but Madison could get it as well. If one is looking for an upset, Torres could win as the result of a split vote. Last year many thought Lily Gladstone was a lock, but Emma Stone got her second award and it was quite well deserved.
Erivo really does give off bad vibes. I liked Wicked and her performance, but she seems like quite a stand offish person in real life. |

Stoked for Conan. And hoping for an Adrien Brody win.

Palestinian Oscar nominated documentary "No Other Land" can't find a US distributor. I'm shocked...

Re: 2025 Academy Awards
Will OJ Simpson be part of the memoriam or do they take a stand and cut him out?
He died in April 2024 after the 2024 Oscars. It seems nobody forgets him during the in memorian award shows segments. -rolleyes- |
Re: 2025 Academy Awards
There’s absolutely no way.
ill livestream myself eating my Vancouver Canucks hat if it happens. |
Re: 2025 Academy Awards
One interesting thing for this year will be that Conan is not a topical or political comedian, and he generally avoids "what's in the news" subjects, so there will probably very little Trump bashing from him.

Re: 2025 Academy Awards
Last week, I went to the Shorts.TV screening of all of the short film nominees and all of them were great.
There are a handful of categories that many Oscar watchers go huh, okay, I didn't see any of those, so whatever. But this year you've got my opinion to guide you! :D My predictions and picks: Live Action Short Film A Lien (USA, English) Anuja (USA, Hindi) I'm Not a Robot (Belgium/Netherlands, Dutch) The Last Ranger (South Africa, Xhosa) The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatia, Croatian) Prediction: A Lien Potential Upset: The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent My Pick: A Lien Animated Short Film Beautiful Men (Belgium/France/Netherlands, Flemish, Dutch, Turkish, English) In the Shadow of the Cypress (Iran, no dialogue) Magic Candies (Japan, Japanese) Wander to Wonder (Netherlands/Belgium/France/UK, English) Yuck! / Beurk! (France, French) Prediction: Yuck! Potential Upset: Beautiful Men or In the Shadow of the Cypress My Pick: Magic Candies Documentary Short Film Death by Numbers (USA, English) I Am Ready, Warden (USA, English) Incident (USA, English) Instruments of a Beating Heart (Japan, Japanese) The Only Girl in the Orchestra (USA, English) Prediction: Incident Potential Upset: Death by Numbers My Pick: I Am Ready, Warden |
Re: 2025 Academy Awards
Will those be given out during the broadcast this year?
|
Re: 2025 Academy Awards
I don't know. I know they cut some categories over the years from the telecast, which I find frustrating. All of these films are great!
Poking around the Internet, these plus others like Makeup and Costumes and Sound were cut in 2022, but back in 2023 or 2024. I haven't read anything about categories being cut from the telecast for this year. |
Re: 2025 Academy Awards
On the one hand, I can absolutely respect that this is an industry awards ceremony, and so they want to be inclusive and represent the full range of what film-making encompasses.
On the other hand, as a viewer, it was pretty nice to watch the SAG awards and be done in way under 3 hours. |
Re: 2025 Academy Awards
Instead of cutting the categories why don't they give it out during an oscar preshow before the entire audience gets there before it's live. Or in a wholly different venue and then cut the presentation into 30 second bits/award. That way it would only take a few minutes.

Even though it might be less important the Golden Globes are far more entertaining than the Oscars since almost every award is a big category like best actor, actress, etc and not 90 minutes of the technical awards like the Oscars though they deserve the merit but does not make for entertaining TV seeing a bunch of people working behind the scenes you never heard of. |

Because the point is that the winner of every award gets their moment to take the stage in front of the assembled Hollywood community and speak, whether they are the biggest movie star or someone who made a documentary short. They won an Oscar, the highest achievement in their profession, and so they get their moment to shine.

Guess it was a one-off? https://variety.com/2022/awards/awar...ut-1235187841/ This year, those categories presented in the evening’s first hour and seen later in the live broadcast are, alphabetically: Documentary (Short Subject), Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Production Design, Short Film (Animated), Short Film (Live Action), and Sound. |

Is it better that they're just cut out completely then? This way they can still take the stage, still have their moment but not add to the runtime of the live telecast.

He never shied away from political jokes either. He just never took a hard stance like everyone does today. |

Re: 2025 Academy Awards
I am glad the Academy did not schedule the ceremony next Sunday or on DST day again.
