AI Trailers: 1950s Super Panavision 70

Well . . . I hate AI with a passion. However, I have discovered the rabbit hole of 1950s Super Panavision 70 trailers on Youtube.

Those were in my feed yesterday too. So weird, but interesting!

So cool... scary cool. I can only imagine where AI will be in 5, 10 years. Will we even need actors or movie sets?

I would watch all of these movies. The question is, AI can make a cool 2-minute trailer, but can it actually make a compelling 2-hour movie?

Here's a video about how people are making these AI trailers. It seems like the most expensive part of the process is time.

Would be cooler if everything wasn't constantly morphing. Guess that adds to the creepyness, though.

I've seen a few of these on my facebook feed and they've been pretty cool. My favorite is Lord of the Rings. This could have been a real movie in the 50s.

Can Hollywood these days?

Yeah I posted some of these in "Otter". They are fascinating. Look how much AI has evolved and improved in just 1 year.

The evolution has been insane, and they told us it would happen fast. I’ve been goofing around with a couple of simple phone apps for a year or more — feeding the beast, I guess — and the improvements have been substantial, and that’s just on still photos (although hands are still a nightmare). I still don’t consider any of this to be legitimate “work”, though, as some people like to call it. Sure, it takes time, and requires input, but there’s still an uncanny sameness to all of it, even these retro trailers. What AI does is impressive, but I roll my eyes at ‘promoters’ fancying themselves artists.

And based on some of that phenomenal video footage that Sora AI teased recently, the day will come when “movies” with full action (and none of the weird ‘morphing’ in these trailers, as Maxflier noted) will be possible. And in an entertainment environment already super-saturated with movies and tv content by actual creatives (increasingly augmented with AI), I suspect it will become nearly impossible to stand out creatively, or make much of a living at it, in a few years.

Not just hands. Check out the legs on some of the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park one. Octo-saurs!

Imagine if South Park existed in the 50s. I'd watch it.🤣

This 1950s style Terminator trailer crossed my YouTube feed today. It's creepy and also you could see the really bizarre imperfections, like facial movements.

Same with this 1950s Robocop trailer

Slightly off topic, I've seen a lot of these fan-casting trailers using AI for popular movie franchises. They are pretty amazing.

Like this one.

They should make AI trailers for Jodorosky's Dune, Boorman's Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek Planet of the Titans.

Hell, I want to see AI make those movies with all of the available information. rotfl

What's funny about that '80s Justice League with imaginary casting is the costumes often look better than anything I think Hollywood could make. Though the AI looks like it's blending pics of Gal Gadot into the face for the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman. Probably a data mining issue.

I actually messed around a little bit with an AI image generator for a 90s Justice League, about a year ago
Laurence Fishburne as GL John Stewart
Demi Moore as Wonder Woman
Antonio Banderas as Aquaman
Keanu Reeves as Flash
I'm forgetting the others. And the costumes looked awesome, but also totally implausible as things actors could wear in the real world. You're right about the "facial blend", as well. One of the Demi Moore ones definitely was more Gadot.

What struck me about these videos (other than the weird facial/limb movement) is how one showed up in my feed and I watched it, then a few more from the same channel showed up later, and I watched them. But then within a few days, tons more from different channels started showing up, like they were all from the same person or a coherent group, since they all had the 50s feel, but they had different narrators with some having accents and some not. I guess it's just a strange viral meme thing, but I was a bit surprised the other channels all copied the same motif and did not branch into other decade styles.

They are hunting clicks/views trying to game YouTube's algorithms. If videos of pure white noise got clicks, they would copy it.

Funny how quickly these went from "That's pretty cool" to getting tired of them... they seem to be rapidly flooding Youtube, and I just watched about six different fake 1950s trailers for Alien and even more for Avengers and Justice League, and I rapidly lost interest in them because there's a certain blandness and sameness to all of them.

The only one posted here that I watched is the one for THE MATRIX. There is absolutely nothing "1950s" about its visuals or even the way the narration is written or spoken. I guess AI hasn't seen many older sci-fi movies.

I enjoyed these two quite a bit. Really like to see these movies.
