Asphalt City Sean Penn, Tye Sheridan, Mike Tyson, and Kali Reis 3/29/2024

No major PR blitz for this but the kind of old school movie you don't see anymore

I am in for this.

A young paramedic gets a crash course in lifesaving techniques while working with a grizzled New York City veteran.

How is Armie Hammer canceled and Mike Tyson is not?

Maybe Tyson has more famous friends and more people like him than Hammer?

Hammer was only one example of someone who didn't really do something or at least wasn't convicted. Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist and he's not even an actor. So why does Hollywood embrace him, but Dustin Hoffman gets attacked by John Oliver for jokes he made 30 years ago on a film set? I just don't get it.

Not sure

Tyson's crime or alleged crime happened in 1992 before people got cancelled

Alleged?? He went to prison!

Hollywood likes rapists...

I'd rather see Kevin Spacey than Iron Mike.

Never could understood how people can like Tyson...always found him to be a POS

We're all skipping right over Sean Penn in this discussion? He has an entire section on "assaults" in his Wikipedia entry.

And regarding Tyson, if "cancelling" is meant to punish people for behaviors and crimes, then you could argue that Tyson already was punished by being sent to prison. It's not as if he got away with it.

I guess that’s the issue. If prison is supposed to punish and/or rehabilitate you then it should be argued that Tyson did his time, accepted his punishment and moved on.

I’m not a Tyson fan but based on what I’ve seen from him in the last 10 years or so he’s at least trying to be a better person than he was.

Also placing a shitty actor like Tyson side by side with arguably the greatest actor of our time seems like a bad idea that will only make Tyson look worse by comparison.

Cancelling in the most cases is used to feel morally superior, it hasn't really a lot to do with the canceled person and I don't think the same people who think Armie Hammer should never work again, are fine with Tyson did his time. Regardless of Tyson's past, he can't act for shit and like GoldenJCJ already said, putting him besides Sean Penn is a terrible idea.

Edit: This is actually getting a very limited theatrical run. But, let's be real, no one is going to watch this.

I could dig up The Hangover Thread if you need the discussion connected to s successful movie

I am going to watch it since that was the reason I posted

I think this is Penn's first movie in a long time since I thought he said he was retired.

I am a fan and hope he gets back into movies again.
