Downton Abbey 3 (2025, D: Curtis)

A third movie is in the works now. There were rumors of a revival series, but I'd watch either a new season or a new movie. I was hoping for another new tv season though. https://tvline.com/news/downton-abbe...te-1235190649/

I'll watch it like i watched the others. I still wish Fellows would do a Crossover of Downton Abbey with The Guilded Age.

I need to watch season 2 of The Gilded Age. I'm a sucker for a good period drama. I'm hooked on All Creatures Great and Small now. You couldn't really do a crossover of Downton and The Gilded Age. The Gilded Age is in the 1880s. Downton is from 1912-1928. I guess you could have younger versions of the Crawleys interact with Gilded characters or maybe some of Cora's American relatives.

I hope the new movie has the ghost of the dowager countess haunting Downton and making bitchy remarks from beyond the grave

You could. It would likely deal with a 20 or 30 something yo actress playing Maggie Smith's character in her prime.

The Dowager Countess didn't seem like one that would travel to America.

Cora’s parents/aunts/uncles would be the most likely candidates as easter egg party guests at best.

True. But she did do some world traveling with her husband IIRC so maybe she can "slum it" with the rabble in a visit to the Good Ole US of A. .

re: Downton Abbey 3 (2025, D: Curtis)

Focus Features and Carnival Films are officially in production on Downton Abbey 3 with main cast members returning and a number of new additions to the feature franchise spawned by creator Julian Fellowes’ global TV phenomenon. Simon Curtis is directing after helming 2022’s feature sequel Downton Abbey: A New Era.

Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti is reprising his role from the TV series as Cora’s (Elizabeth McGovern) brother Harold Levinson. New to the film franchise are Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola and House of the Dragon’s Simon Russell Beale and Arty Froushan. Dominic West will also reprise his role as Guy Dexter from the second movie.

As well as McGovern, other returning key cast include Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Penelope Wilton, Lesley Nicol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera and Douglas Reith.

For the moment, there’s no word on plot details. The third feature is written by Fellowes and produced by Gareth Neame, Fellowes and Liz Trubridge.

Fellowes’ wildly successful period drama started life as a series on ITV in 2011. It went on to spawn six seasons and two movies. The first two films, released in 2019 and 2022, grossed a combined $287.3 million globally.

Downton Abbey 3 is a Carnival Films production, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International distributing. Carnival Films is part of NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Hopefully they'll keep the locale completely in England/at the Mansion this time around. I liked a New Era, but we really didn't need a huge chunk of the plot taking place in France. One wonders if this one will deal with the worldwide depression of the 1930s?
