As a fan of Director David F. Sandberg & the source video game, I definitely agree that this looks fairly generic.
It doesn't quite benefit the source material being adapted 9-years after release. The trailer already has me wondering if this film will offer anything that Happy Death Day (2017)/Happy Death Day 2U (2019) didn't already accomplish. |

Supposedly Happy Death Day to Us is in active development. So, even if this likely sucks, we have that to look forward to.

It almost feels like Sony commissioned a filmed chapter of The Dark Pictures rather than Until Dawn. The anthology format of the former easily lends itself to such an approach, unlike the standalone latter.
I love this comment on YouTube: I can hear the pitch meeting already "So you have a movie for me?" "Yes sir i do, i was thinking about making a movie called 'Until Dawn'" "Oh based the video game about the 8 friend's surviving in the mountains against wendigos" ... ... ... "That's what it's about? Saw this tonight before The Accountant 2. I really liked this one. Came across a review that called it Groundhog Day meets Cabin in the Woods and yeah that is pretty accurate. Some really good gore and kill scenes. Characters that actually use their brain to figure a way of out this. I honestly wish this was a longer runtime.

Was gonna see it Sunday but changed my mind. Have too much other stuff to watch on disc ATM. I'll watch it on home video.

Just got back from seeing it. It was fun. Definitely had a Groundhog Day vibe. It’s not without some typical horror cliches, including some dumb decisions by the main 4. But I had a good time and it had some suspense and gory kills. I liked the cameo from the director David Sanberg. Not going to say where it was and its context. |

I watched this last night... enjoyable. Definitely Groundhog Day vibes and some of the kills were great. I didn't know it was based on a videogame until I looked it up after.

I thought this was really good. Lots of sets and monster effects.
The climactic scene kinda glosses over most exposition I was expecting. Is this science? Supernatural? Was she a targeted patient? Is Hill immortal? I gather it was a choice to just let it go and forego explanation. |

This was surprisingly entertaining, even if the plot collapses towards the end. Also, I still can't shake the feeling that this started as a spec script and got the IP slapped on it via hasty rewrite.

This was probably the worst screenplay I have ever seen. From what I understand, this is based on a video game? I don’t follow video games, but what was this movie even about?
If someone asked me to explain the plot, I would have no answer. This movie cannot be summarized. |
