From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S and M3GAN, comes an original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends – and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath? When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be. Lionsgate and Blumhouse present, a Tower of Babble production. This comes out March 8, 2024. The director doesn't have a great resume. Kickass 2, Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island are some of his most notables. |

That resume doesn’t exactly inspire confidence (and you could throw CRY_WOLF on the pile as well). I saw this trailer a couple of days ago and my immediate thought was how similar it feels, at its core, to BENNY LOVES YOU (2019), only seemingly without the humour (and with a hero who doesn’t have a kid). That wasn’t exactly a classic, but it was extremely well made (and gory) for a low-budget affair:

I interacted with Jeff Wadlow a few times back in college when he helped mentor on short films and the whole experience was a great time. Nice guy, and really knowledgeable. But holy shit his resume makes me want to not mention that in public.
Kevin Everson, also a director/professor (who has a few interviews on Criterion Channel) referred to him as Wadfuck. :lol: |

Cool hook. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being popular, even though it has a low RT rating.

I saw this today. I can see how most don't like it. It's kind of goofy/campy and not really a horror movie per se. It's more fantasy in my opinion and it's pretty low budget. Tom Payne is hardly in it. This is a DeWanda Wise starring movie.
Overall, not a piece of unwatchable trash, but I can't say it's good either. I actually liked Five Nights at Freddy's more and that's not exactly great praise. . Gets a generous C from me mainly for Wise's performance. |

Not much interest in this, but it's nice seeing Betty Buckley in all the ads for it. I'd only known her as the gym teacher in Carrie, but went down a musical theater rabbit hole during quarantine and discovered what an accomplished stage career she's had.

The production design was solid but I didn't care for much outside of that. |
