I'm in several DC/CW show related groups on Facebook all run by a guy who's a HUGE DC Fan and who's also a Union Electrician in NY in real life. He posted Amell's comments, locked the thread, then proclaimed "he's never watching anything with Amell again!! Union Strong!!"

Yeah, Amell done fucked up.

I have no idea who he is and I won’t object to or support his opinions.

I will point out the levels of stupidity when a public figure makes public comments in a public place and then wants them to stay private.

One of the directors is a friend of mine and candidly told me (when I asked about it) that was the reason I wasn't cast.

So you didn't get hired because of the color of your skin? Seems a bit problematic.

I’ve already gotten a lifetime of opportunities because of the color of my skin. That was far more problematic. It’s okay if someone else gets a chance, especially someone who wouldn’t have gotten that same chance before.

Seems like it’s only white people who want to go straight to “everything must be even now” without accounting for at least a bit of a pendulum swing.

So you're fine with someone getting a job, a job that one oftentimes has to audition and test for, simply because of the color of their skin, and not because they were the better candidate for the role. Seems like a recipe for some pretty crappy shows, but at least they got their chance.

If the alternative is a cast of nothing but white people? Yes. Because we have gotten a million roles for that reason alone.

And I've also lost out on roles because I was too tall or too fat or plenty of other reasons that have nothing to do with my talent. Even if I was a better candidate. That's how the business works.

But, Draven, that's why it's not fair ... If it has always been that way, it isn't fair that it isn't that way still! -rolleyes-

I have a pretty wild idea. People of color can be equally qualified. I'm sure Liam Neeson could have been a great Equalizer, but Denzel is doing OK, too.

So you're fine with racism. Got it.

Who said they couldn't be equally qualified? They could be more qualified. Apparently it's only a "wild idea" in your mind. The question that was asked was if one thinks that a LESS qualified candidate should be chosen simply because of the color of their skin. Draven thinks so.

When did I say less qualified?

Re: Screen Actors Strike 2023

Robert Beltran from ST Voyager is pissin' off Strikers, SAG-Aftra, Trekkies, and the LGBT Community in one fell swoop. 🤣

Story here

.Star Trek star Robert Beltran angered fans this week by agreeing with an anti-LGBTQ+ post on X (formerly Twitter) after being accused of breaking the actor’s strike rules at a convention.

Josh-da-man 08-11-23 12:32 AM

Re: Screen Actors Strike 2023

Actors were told they could speak on panels at the convention so long as they refrained from discussing their TV and movie work in a promotional context. This meant that William Shatner avoided talking about Star Trek at this panel and actors Ethan Peck and Zachary Quinto didn’t discuss their character Spock at a Spock actor meetup.
What the fuck else are they going to talk about at a goddamn Star Trek convention?

They either need to postpone the conventions, or SAG-AFTRA at least carve out some kind of exemption for special events like these. What's the point of having a Zach Quinto and Ethan Peck meet-up if they can't discuss Star Trek and Spock at a fucking Star Trek convention?

These rules about conventions aren't going to put any significant pressure on AMPTP and just serve to annoy the fans who paid to be there.

I think at this point, they MUST get the strike settled by early November 2023 at latest. Reason: we may end up with no tentpole movies in summer 2024 because major projects are being delayed.

There's already been some schedule shuffling, but after this summer's tentpoles failed to deliver, I don't see why they care anymore. They screwed themselves with shortening the streaming/HE releases.

We had two movies released on the same day this summer which are both breaking all sorts of records for their respective categories. What this summer has told us is that people are still more than willing to get to the theater provided the film is worth the price.

But does that make up for the supposed box office guaranteed IP titles that came out and under-performed?

Re: Screen Actors Strike 2023

Who knows. But there's been a clear shift in consumer consumption of movies. Why go to a theater and pay $15 to see something sub-par when you can pay the same price for a month of a streaming service with hundreds of movies on demand. I'm hoping this results in fewer garbage movies ending up in theaters.

We're never going to get "just the good ones" in theaters. Good movies are incredibly hard to make. Theaters couldn't survive on those breadcrumbs.

In that case, what happens when studios lose money on over 50% of the movies they release? I see no indication that garbage movies will start to make money in theaters again. Hell, even good ones have trouble making money without massive media push. Maybe the middle class of movies just gets eliminated. Either cheap indie movies or high budget/no risk franchises.

Ding ding ding. The “middle class” movies go to streamers now.
