Favorite coming of age movies?
I’ve been watching my fair share of these recently and know there are so many good ones, I need a little memory jog. Now, I don’t know exact definition, but hopefully people get it.
For me, I love:
Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Stand By Me
Boyz n the Hood
Brooklyn
hoping to remind me of some great ones.

One of the very best is Fresh (1994). Sad to say the movie got one mediocre Blu-ray release by Echo Bridge which has been out of print for years and years. It's a Miramax film and lost in the Weinstein vortex.

Flirting by John Duigan. For crying out loud, give me an HD version.
And, yeah, Fast Times and Boyhood, too.
Oh, and I'm embarrassed that I almost forgot Summer of '42.
And now that I see Dan's post, before mine, I'd add Ghost World as well.

Going more for drama then comedy.
Cider House Rules
Bicentennial Man - more of a guilty pleasure. And I guess not coming of age in the traditional sense. But still a story about growing up and the changes of life.

Re: Favorite coming of age movies?
The only things I can think of offhand are every version of LITTLE WOMEN (1933, 1949, 1994, 2019) and a 2016 indie set in contemporary Brooklyn called LITTLE MEN, directed by Ira Sachs.

+ A ton of anime, but I'll single out a 1993 Studio Ghibli film I originally knew as I CAN HEAR THE OCEAN, but released in the U.S. as OCEAN WAVES.
