Hopefully will be going soon. The wife actually said she would see this with me, and she NEVER wants to go see a movie which makes me happy. Hopefully it is as good as everyone here is saying.

So she only likes to go to movies with you if they make you sad? :D

I haven't gone back and forth on a movie this much in a while. I gave up on this movie but saw the full Ultraman fight scene on you tube, started watching it as I said I wasn't going to watch the movie anyway, then quicky stopped it because I really liked what I saw and didn't want to ruin it.

Just got home from watching this. There are a couple small things I can nitpick, but overall it was a really good movie.

Posted spoilers in the reviews thread but I thought it was fine. What was good and bad in the trailer was good and bad in the movie. Not bad, not great, just fine.

‘Superman’ Soaring To $21M+ In Previews: Best YTD & Record For James Gunn – Box Office

Warners was hoping for a $100M 3-day start and tracking and exhibition were spotting $115M-$130M, Superman, looks to be leaving all those projections in the dust.

Or she just likes seeing him angry.

Back to Ultraman...did they pay Tsuburaya Productions for the use of the name or did Warner Bros. just rip it off?

I was wondering about that, but DC has used the Ultraman name for a long time now (1964, predating Tsuburaya's by two years), it's not a character created just for this movie.

$22.5m in preview showings, that puts it alongside Barbie ($22.3m previews, 3-day $164m) and The Batman ($21.6m, $134m opening). Pretty good start.

A local animal shelter had a pin with white puppies set up when the Superman showing let out. I went to the bathroom and came back to ky sons determined that we needed to adopt our own Krypto.

They were adorable, but I’m not that big of a sucker. I need a bit of time to think about it first.

On par with Guardians 3, but less than Man of Steel's opening weekend (counting Thursday previews) in 2013. The media hype train surrounding this movie felt bigger, but box office projections (inflation adjusted) indicate initial weekend turnout is down a third compared to the character's last solo movie.

Was it hype? Most of what I had seen up to this point have been a lot of arguing back and forth among fans (and the usual instigators that seem to just want to start problems). And even now, the media seems more awash in controversy due to a "retcon" that, frankly, has been used often enough in the comics to no longer be viewed as a retcon, and bizarre complaints about Superman being an immigrant (except for the John Byrne era, Superman was always an immigrant and refugee). That and even many that liked the film still seem to express distaste for Gunn's style/humor when applied to Superman.

I have been openly on the fence regarding this flick, but feel I may go see it anyway. And barring my being able to find the time for the theater, I did go ahead and pre-order the standard 4K UHD BD (yes, I am a DC whore :().

I’ve seen more marketing for this video than any movie in recent memory. There is a Superman flavor at Dairy Queen right now.

Comparing it to Man of Steel doesn't seem...right. We're coming off of 10 years of the DCEU disappointment and superhero fatigue in general. Strong word of mouth and solid reviews (82%/93% on RT) will do this film well. I haven't seen it yet, but the positivity has to be great news for kicking off the new DCU.

I'm referring to positive mainstream pre-release hype - like the morning show hosts gushing about Krypto and how Corenswet's Supes is the positive hero the world needs right now... yada, yada, yada. The studio publicity machine at work. Man of Steel's marketing (and merchandising) felt more subdued - especially compared to the highs the MCU was experiencing at the time.

I like this balanced comparison between Snyder's and Gunn's take on Superman.

Okay. I somehow missed all that. Most of the pre-release promos I've seen has been here. So given how out of the loop I am, I will take your word for it. :)

“Three years ago, I hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to reimagine and unify the creative direction of DC under one leadership team,” said David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, in a statement. “The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”

What is the opinion of the score? I have heard nothing about it other than the iconic Williams theme does get played at some point. I haven't seen the film yet.

Even though Man Of Steel's score was far from iconic and wasn't very memorable, I did find it to be one of the better parts of that movie.

It's pretty decent, but I'm not sure how memorable it'll be in the long run. Here's the official upload of the soundtrack, courtesy of WaterTower Music.

I actually really liked Zimmer's score for Man Of Steel, even though it's not his best. The theme he wrote for Superman felt like an inversion of his Batman theme from Batman Begins. Same minimalist motif but MOS feels hopeful and somewhat magestic, whereas BB feels brooding and imposing.

“What are you going to do when you’re not saving the world” is the best on that score. The drums alone make it amazing.

Releasing on a Friday is a good idea. Families that may not have seen it in theaters may pick it up to watch at home over the weekend.

Re: Superman (2025, D: Gunn)

Everyone who really wanted to see it in the theater likely already did. Now WB/DC is going to make some more money in digital sales. Gunn has already confirmed the movie profited. It’s going to probably make a little over $600M in theater revenue. That’s pretty good for what was a “rebuilding” movie of the DC IP.

Michael Corvin 08-12-25 06:47 PM

Re: Superman (2025, D: Gunn)

Similar window as Jurassic World Rebirth too.

Re: Superman (2025, D: Gunn)

I would have rather they went with a longer theatrical window, but I guess it is what it is these days. It finally hit one my favorite small theater screens in town so I'm going back for a third time this weekend rather than picking up the digital copy.

Studios know the exact point when they believe their cut from digital home video surpasses the dwindling theatrical revenue. Since theaters take a bigger percentage as the theatrical window goes on, studios are making a business decision.

That's a little bit irritating. How hard would it have been to have it on the disc?
