So anyone seeing Minus Color this weekend?
I've already seen the movie twice. So not 100% sure I'll venture out for the B&W version.

I thought Minus Color was only going to be an AMC exclusive but it's at the Alamo too and my wife is into seeing it (since my son and I talked it up so much after the first time). So we got tickets for Friday night!

Nice. Yeah it's showing at my local arthouse theater too.

I saw the Minus Color version this afternoon. The picture seemed softer and I didn't notice background details near as much. To me this presentation felt more intense and more emotional. I think it worked well.

Apparently Toho is declining offers from Asian theaters to screen this movie in that region. No Asian country outside of Japan has access to the movie. A really bizarre move by Toho. I read online so many Asian fans dying to see it, but they have no ability to. The movie could have made even more money.

I'm so glad to hear how well the film is doing but my plan to wait for digital has totally backfired. I assumed we'd have physical discs by now!

Minus Color is out this weekend for 1 week. Is there any particular reason stopping you from going?

I only go to theaters these days when it's a movie my wife really wants to see and doesn't want to wait. Godzilla doesn't fall into that category.

Back in the DVD era, when some of the 80’s / 90’s Godzilla movies weren’t on disc in North America yet, they suddenly turned up on legitimate Region 3 Hong Kong DVDs. They had Japanese and Cantonese audio tracks, but you could only turn on the English subtitles if you selected the Cantonese track (which was not very well done). With the Japanese track you could only have Chinese subtitles. That always seemed like the kind of thing Toho would demand in an effort to stymie English-speaking folks who wanted those films in the original language with subs, and they undoubtedly knew that a many ‘overseas’ collectors like me routinely got a lot Japanese movies (with original audio and subs, no tricks) from the Hong Kong labels because they were more affordable. Those Godzilla discs got bootlegged of course, but presumably still had the subtitle restriction carried over.

There is no official release date for Godzilla Minus One on home video. Some are speculating late 2024 as Japan will probably get it 1st because there is no U.S. distributor.
Toho would probably be hesitant to put up a digital copy too soon. Once it drops, it would be pirated to hell within minutes.

I’ve seen a handful of Godzilla movies throughout the years but I’m not always one for Kaiju films. I casually like some of them but not a huge fan.
However I had heard a lot of good things about Godzilla Minus One so was interested in seeing it. My wife and I went to a matinee showing of the Minus Color version. Very good movie.
I’m glad that we opted to see the Minus Color version as I feel like the black and white really added to the atmosphere of the setting of the movie and also it felt like a classic monster movie. The storyline was good and the human characters were actually people I had interest in and cared about. Also Godzilla was just a beast in this movie. Very cool design.
Overall really happy I saw the movie and I’ll definitely grab the 4K or Blu-ray when it’s out.

Saw a matinee of Minus Color today. It was a definitely IMO a different experience. The color schemes gave it a much more old school Kaiju movie feel. And Godzilla felt a lot more threatening with his darker color schemes.
It was a pretty nice turnout for this version at around 4pm.
It's such a shame that Toho shutout the rest of Asia on this movie. This would have done really well in other Asian territories.
