It has stuff going in reverse, reeeaally evilly. If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what will.

So the two priests, Fathers Spiletto (who convinced Thorne to take Damian as his baby) and Brennan (who later warned Thorne and got skewered by a lightning rod) are characters in this.

I welcome this. The originals scared the living shit out of me when I was a kid - mainly the f'n score.
I still need to watch the remake as well.

This is out this weekend. The social media embargo lifted last week and word sounds positive.
Review embargo lifts on the 4th.

Saw it this afternoon and I had zero expectations. It was surprisingly pretty good and very effective with the suspense and imagery. Nell Tiger Free is really good as the protagonist Maggie and it really felt like the 1970s with the clothes, sets and atmosphere. Overall, this felt like a 1970s style horror. They really did a good job with the budget.
I didn’t read any spoilers on this other than being slightly aware that this was a prequel. But, I won’t go into any spoilers on the specific nature of it being a prequel. But, this was a pleasant surprise for me. I give it a B+
The thing that might keep people away from this is there are no major stars other than the IP it’s associated with. I mean there are known actors like Charles Dance, Bill Nighy and Sonia Braga. Dance’s part is super small though.

I saw this last week and hated it. It was, in my opinion, the worst movie I've seen this year. I found it to be really predictable and super boring. Maybe my expectations were just too high.

I'm not sure that Religious Horror Films have anything left to say that's particularly new or original.
It was a bit hilarious that the opening 15 minutes of this film and Immaculate (2024) seem to mirror each other exactly.

Religious horror movies are not for everyone. It's going to have some divided opinions. I'm not really a fan of the genre either. Although I was somewhat entertained by the Pope's Exorcist last year.
As I said, I had almost no expectations for this and knew very little about it going on. It wasn't even really on my radar until I started seeing some positive thoughts and I was pleasantly surprised. But, YMMV as Dave said it didn't work for him,

Saw this last week and felt similar, though Nell Tiger Free's performance was fantastic.
