Last movie marathon you did?

From time to time I like to watch a trilogy or all movies in franchise back to back to back. It’s fun. See differences in the subsequent movies. See how they tie together.

Right now, I’m in the midst of an Alexander Payne marathon. Saw Sideways other night, The Descendants last night. Just finished About Schmidt. Have Election and Downsizing set to go next. Also, did some Marvel recently, SM, CA, Avengers, etc.

Do you do them a lot, a little? What was last?

Don't know if this counts, but I've been watching a lot of Batman movies lately. Almost daily really.

I don’t think it qualifies as an actual “movie marathon” but around the time Tenet came out on Blu-ray, my wife and I did a mini marathon of Memento, Inception, and Dunkirk after getting into a Christopher Nolan mood.

I can’t recall the last time I had the time or the energy where I legitimately sat through a “straight-through” movie marathon. Maybe when the extended versions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy came out on DVD? That was what, 20 years ago? Jesus, time flies!

Last movie marathon we did was Planet of the Apes, all the way from 1968 to 2017, watched from 01-26 to 02-10-2022.

Please don’t misunderstand. I don’t mean watching same day. Just meaning in many days or in the midst of one, but over a span, just some movies in a row whenever.

I'm right in the middle of one right now. Smack dab in the middle!

ZATOICHI

That Criterion Box Set is amazing. Great movies, great set. Love it!

Before this the last one I did was a couple years ago, James Bond.

The films of Gaspar Noe.

Doing Haneke's films right now. Usual method is pick a director and see their films in order of production.

LOTR extended, Thanks to a Facebook poll I made. I should be doing another marathon soon. So many choices.

Thinking about doing this soon.

Last year I watched all the Showa era Godzilla movies during a two week isolation because my roommate got Covid. I'd never seen them before because I had this prejudice that Godzilla movies would be "stupid", but now I regret having not dived into them earlier. They're wonderful.

The last time I did a single day marathon was watching the Star Wars trilogy. I watched Star Wars in the afternoon, and late that evening I did Empire and Return back to back. I watched the un-enhanced versions that were included as special features on the late 2000s DVD release, which were letterboxed inside a 1:33 image so they only filled half the screen, but with the lights off it was good enough for home viewing. I thought the flawed Jedi played better by watching it right after Empire.

Currently in the middle of the Three Stooges shorts (Bought the complete collection a few months ago and I'm on their 1941-era)

As far as feature-length movies go, War and Peace had to have been the last one(s). Binged them on HBOMAX late last year.

For my upcoming review here of Coming 2 America, I first watched Trading Places (which ties in a bit) and the first Coming to America on HD-DVD.

Right now I am going through all my Jerry Lewis films again. His sweet spot only last for 5 years, from 1960 to 1964, but in that time he made 8 films that I really enjoyed starting with The Bellboy and ending with The Disorderly Orderly.

I have a 1-year-old, but I was able to watch Free Guy a few weeks ago without pausing it once.

My son and I watched all of the Kevin Smith movies over the course of a few weeks recently. At the moment, we're going through the Terminator series. We picked up with T2 a couple of nights ago and Genysis is up next.

The Smokey and the Bandit trilogy.

All three movies played back-to-back on Showtime yesterday, and, god help me, I watched them.

The first one wasn't bad, and kind of amusing in a mid-70s way, but the second one was awful, and the third one was beyond a dumpster fire that not even Jackie Gleason gnawing on scenery could save.

I did find it slightly amusing that the three movies were all released in the same years at the Star Wars OT movies (1977, 1980, 1983).

And what the fuck is a "Diablo Sandwich?" I think I might need to start a thread in Other...

I attempted to research this a few years ago. I couldn’t find a definitive answer, but it came down to either a sloppy joe or a loose meat sandwich with hot sauce.
I watch Smokey and the Bandit yearly and I make the loose meat version for myself and my guests.

I think that these are the only two posts so far that qualify as movie marathons.

Ok, I can kind of get if someone's like 'I'm doing a James Bond marathon' and they actually mean that they're watching all of the Bond movies back-to-back, but spreading them out over multiple days/weeks. But you're basically just saying, 'Lately I've been watching Alexander Payne movies, some MCU stuff, Spider-Man movies and The Godfather trilogy.' That's not four concurrent marathons. It's just a list of random stuff.

Anyway, my last marathon was my annual horror movie festival last October. We watched:
Black Sheep
Mayhem
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Hell Comes to Frogtown
What We Do in the Shadows
It Follows
Stitches
Piranha 3DD
Grave Encounters

The first eight were in one day, followed by the last one over breakfast the next morning.

i'm not listing random stuff. i am trying to watch at least one of those i mentioned per night, sometimes a little of this and a little of that (usually at least one full), but all part of the sequence of movies from a particular director, franchise, etc...

In preparation for seeing Spider-Man: No Way Home in the theater, I rewatched:

UHD:
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 3

3D
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Captain America: Civil War
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Endgame
Spider-Man: Far From Home
Into the Spider-Verse

After Infinity War, I realized I should probably watch -
Doctor Strange

It was good timing, I was able to watch about 3 per day
