The film will suck just like the previous one.

The dude that's playing Shao Kahn is a massive bastard.

 I liked the last movie. Just a dumb popcorn action/video game movie but still fun. I’m looking forward to the sequel.

The first was decent. Not as good as the '95 movie, but with better vfx. That said, I am cautiously (though not necessarily) optimistic about th sequel.

I liked the last movie, looking forward to this one. I'll probably see it in the theater.

I seem to recall here that the main criticism of the 1st movie was the lead character, played by Lewis Tan. He played a character that didn't exist in the game's mythology.

You are correct. Cole Young, Lewis Tan's character was a POV character created exclusively for the movie. Fans didn't like that one bit since (A) they could have used any of the pre-existing characters for that, (B) you can tell that Cole Young was essentially Johnny Cage with his personality stripped away, and (C) Cole Young took up screentime better left to fan favorite characters, such as the heavily marketed Scorpion and Sub-Zero (of which the former was actually an extended cameo).

I feel bad for Lewis Tan. He's a solid actor and an excellent martial artist. They should have simply had him play Johnny Cage in the first movie. Or, heck, reveal in the sequel that he had a brief film career using the stage name Johnny Cage.

I honestly don’t even remember the first one. But frankly, I probably wouldn’t even have watched the first one if it hadn’t been released on MAX at the same time it was released in theaters during COVID.

I was pretty hard up for new releases in those days.

Im hoping we actually see the villains. Shao Kahn and Quan Chi are supposed to be in the movie.

The first movie didn't meet my expectations, so hopefully this one is better. Maybe I was overhyped for the first one.

The 1995 version is still my favorite video game movie.

This is an IP I want to be good again and again (like The Crow and Predator movies). I just set myself up again and again. Ha.

I just hope that damn movie is included as a bonus on the eventual 4K release. Like a special features version of A Fistful of Yen, the movie within a movie from The Kentucky Fried Movie.

So they're just... kinda doing the first one again with a bigger budget

At least they're bringing back Tan, but shouldn't he have been the chosen one? Baraka looks to be either bad prosthetics or bad CG mouth.

I'll watch it when it's streaming for free somewhere. Definitely not making a trip to the theater for this.

The only thing good about the last movie was the opening scene with Sub Zero and Scorpion's origins.

The first one didn't have the actual tournament.

October is my birthday month. Oh heck yeah I'll see this in IMAX. This appears to be the movie we should have gotten 4 years ago.

Re: Mortal Kombat 2 (2025, D: McQuoid)

It's up to Karl Urban's charisma to salvage this one. Shao Kahn looks awesome and that's about it. That leap from Jade(?) where she lands facing the camera looked like she was totally AI.

Re: Mortal Kombat 2 (2025, D: McQuoid)

For all the Cole Young haters he was barely in the trailer. My guess is he might be killed off early. This definitely looks like it'll be worth it seeing on a large format screen. Since it comes out October 24th this will probably be my Halloween movie this year.

I'm excited. Mortal Kombat should be two things: bloody and cheesy, and this is the first live action adaptation to do both. This is the type of content that appeals to the inner 13-year-old boy from my childhood.
