Favorite opening sequences?
Either before or after title card. Mostly relegated to the the first action piece of that genre, but what’s your favorite or most thrilling?
after just seeing the opening to Skyfall again, that’s my pick. I was on the edge of my bed. Didn’t remember that first time in theater. I was moving and bobbing and weaving as Craig was. Just amazing and gives me new respect for that opening action shot of movies.
Want to know your favs…

The farmhouse scene from Inglourious Basterds is great and it’s about as tense as any scene in movies, the fact that it’s the opening scene with characters we know nothing about makes it even more impressive.

Can anything really top Star Wars?
If we're talking Bond, Goldeneye would get my vote.

Don't know why, but the fast-cutting near the end always gives me chills

'Saving Private Ryan' is the correct answer.

I considered Saving Private Ryan but I figured the actual opening sequence was the old man shuffling through the cemetery. The second scene is D-Day.
Maybe i was overthinking it.

For me it be Raiders Of The Ark.Once the Paramount logo turn into a real mountain and seeing the back of Harrison Ford, I knew I was going for a wild ride. Saw it three times since it opening.

Don't have a favorite but thread sparked a memory. What's the movie that starts with cops walking through a house with dead bodies everywhere then the movie tells what happened. Might have been a tv show. Recent, last 10 years or so.

Don't think so. The cops are walking around the house. Dead bodies everywhere. There was some kind of fight. They all killed each other. The cops are like, "WTF happened here?" The movie backs up and tells the story and we see the fight, or whatever, at the end of the movie. I seem to remember that when you see somebody get killed you remember the body from the begininng. Might have been a horror movie.

Not Magnolia either. Maybe it's false memory on my part. I swear something starts with a house that is a crime scene. Cops are walking around the house. A body here, a body over there. There are plain clothes detectives or FBI. One of the plains clothes cops goes back outside. Another follows him. They're standing outside the house. "WTF happened here? I've never seen anything like this." It could have been some cable show or series. Something like True Detective or whatever. Or if there wasn't something supernatural about it.

Magnolia is the perfect sequence for showing you're going to be watching a bloated pretentious film. The whole theme of coincidence is brought up, then explained OVER AND OVER again hitting you on the head with it.
