That's good and all but I like experiencing a Wes Anderson movie in the theater. At least on initial viewing.

Edit : Looks like it's not on the schedule of the one and only, 7-screen AMC theater in St. Louis, but it is playing at the AMC in Edwardsville, IL

According to my AMC App, it's playing at the AMC Ward Parkway and at the AMC Barrywoods 24 this weekend (on one screen each).

Well I saw it tonight. I really liked it, but it’s really, really Wes Anderson-y, to a fault. You really have to roll with this one, it’s quite silly and surreal overall. He’s long since left the plane of any reality. Still I was chuckling a lot. It’s very cute and has a great cast. I liked it a lot more than French Dispatch which really left me cold. This is pretty much one story, but framed in a strange narrative device where Bryan Cranston plays a narrator who explains to you that you are watching a production of a classic play — and gives background on the making of the play in between Acts, while the “play” plays out like the actual movie. It’s very meta.

Is it a good for the state of cinema this did well and The Flash and Elemental bombed?

I was so impressed by the young actor who played Woodrow, he looks and sounds just like Schwartzman. I had to look to see if he was actually his kid. He isn't, but it turns out he played one of Suzy's brothers in Moonrise Kingdom way back in 2012.

Saw this yesterday.
Not amongst my favorite Wes Anderson films but its enjoyable, (obviously) well-cast and has gorgeous set-pieces.
Liev Schreiber had me laughing consistently through the run-time

This is the third film in a row of Anderson's that I just didn't care for. It feels to me like his style and shtick is getting put before character.

Instead of coming into his own and finding his voice as an artist it feels like he just keeps painting himself further and further into a corner.

I thought this was his best since Grand Budapest, although I really liked the Jeffrey Wright segment in French Dispatch. Not top tier Anderson, but solidly middle tier.
Schwartzman was particularly good and I thought he and Johansson had great chemistry. And the scene with Robbie was one of the more emotionally affecting Anderson scenes in recent memory. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about the history of American theater and playwrights, so a lot of the references were lost on me, but I can't wait to see it again when it comes out on blu-ray.

I had posted earlier that AMC in St. Louis had dropped AC this week even though they had been selling tickets for it. Evidently, they changed their mind, and starting Friday it will be at one AMC in St. Louis County and one in Edwardsville, IL.

Saw it yesterday, enjoyed it, but feel like I need to watch it again to make a real opinion.
Like everyone has said, its definitely a Wes Anderson AF movie, but thats not necessarily bad, but I do feel his movies are starting to feel trapped in each frame. I know he has always had his style, but his this and French Dispatch have been missing some kinetic energy. The picture he makes on screen are unquestionably beautiful, they always have been, but I feel like creating the perfect frame is the main purpose lately. In some ways, it feels like Schwartzman's character is a bit of a reflection of WA.
Royal Tenenbaums
Rushmore
Life Aquatic
Grand Budapest
Mr Fox
Bottle Rocket
Asteroid
Life of Dogs
Moonrise Kingdom
Darjeeling
French Dispatch

Hated this trash. It is literally Wes Anderson doube-downing on every single aspect he is most hated for.
Pointless. Stupid. Boring. Just a fucking waste of time.
I’m sure a certain segment of Wes Anderson fans will gobble and eat this shit up and pretend to love it. The guy sitting to the right of me certainly did.
Who is this crap made for, exactly? The Jeff Goldblum alien scene? Was that supposed to be whimsical? Weird? Ugh.

Pulled in about $22 million before the digital release this Tuesday, July 11.
That is very good for an arthouse film, albeit one littered with the biggest stars and best talent in Hollywood.

All I want to know is, is this better than French Dispatch? Everything else of his I have liked, but that was by far his worst (haven't seen Isle of Dogs yet).

I liked it a LOT more than The French Dispatch, which really did nothing for me and didn't even feel like a movie, more like an anthology series.

I was surprised that I really liked this. Its like a regular movie, with a central character and everything.
Very humorous and amusing throughout. Heartfelt in multiple scenes.
I like this one after Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest.
it is more upper tier Wes Anderson IMO.

I really liked this. I’m not sure why exactly but I was enthralled throughout. Like most of his stuff and this was no exception. It was just pure fun.
